Try a tune up, plugs, check the timing, (not sure what else would help)

Don't bother with that tune up in a can crap.

ROY, what's your question? and what are your mods. List ALL your mods. Your car should pass even without a cat if it's tuned right. Do you have an aftermarket ECU? Do you have a FPR? Bigger injectors? New rail? Breather?

Hey if u have a vafc then just set the vtec at 7000rpm and set ur fuel map on the leanest setting.

Does that "emission test pass crap in a bottle work or double ur money back" actually work?

well..... I kind of figured out why now...
coz my timing was advanced
but the thing is probably coz my CAI is all covered with salt...

would the intake cause it to fail?

CO indicates to me an incomplete burn condition...so though I doubt that your CAI alone caused it to fail, cleaning it would be a good idea nonetheless. Yes, your timing would definitely have something to do with it, as would octane gas. Use the lowest octane you can run w/o detonation and set your timing back to stock. (my honda runs about 17 deg BTDC). Use a timing light and get it right. This should allow you to pass... Also run the highway for a while before you hit the rolling road at the testing facilities. Do you have an A/F meter.... what's it read?

anyways about the emissions stuff if you have a swap you can get them to test under hot rod rules.

From what I know, ROY has the original engine B16A2 - SiR so it has to pass regular emissions.

You're wrong on that..... it's not an SiR
it's only a 98 Si with a crappy D16Y8 engine

crap..... my car failed again on the re-test

already have timing set back to factory settings and it still failed??? WTF!

I had to go back to my mechanic again to re-check everything... but everything was fine... so I went to another emission testing place and this time since their emissions machine is on in the grond like the one at toyota... so this time they did the 2 speed idle tailpipe emissions inspection instead
and it passed no problem and the number are wayway WAY better then the previous test that I did at toyota...!&*@%#@

this is what the results were from all the tests --->

Feb 20, 03 - 1st Test - Markville Toyota
ASM2525 TEST
HC ppm, Limit=76, Reading= 63, PASS
CO%, Limit=0.42, Reading=0.70, FAIL
NO ppm, Limit=580, Reading=71, PASS

CURB IDLE
HC ppm, Limit=150, Reading= 149, PASS
CO%, Limit=0.70, Reading=0.44, FAIL

Feb 21, 03 - 2nd Test - Markville Toyota
ASM2525 TEST
HC ppm, Limit=76, Reading= 64, PASS
CO%, Limit=0.42, Reading=0.82, FAIL
NO ppm, Limit=580, Reading=91, PASS

CURB IDLE
HC ppm, Limit=150, Reading= 92, PASS
CO%, Limit=0.70, Reading=0.67, FAIL

Feb 21, 03 - 3rd Test - Hakka Emission Test Centre
(2 Speed Idle Tailpipe Emissions inspection)
2500 RPM
HC ppm, Limit=150, Reading= 28, PASS
CO%, Limit=0.70, Reading=0.01, PASS

IDLE
HC ppm, Limit=150, Reading= 41, PASS
CO%, Limit=0.70, Reading=0.00, PASS

So WTF??? how come the testing results from Toyota is all f#cked up??? even my mechanic said that it should've passed the first time.... the guy who did the last test said the same thing...
&*%@*#(^! I F%cking wasted over $60 doing the first 2 test at Toyota WTF??? :fustrated

Either their machine is fucked up

Or the garage is lack of Oxygen

Go ask for a refund man

I have heard that there are a lot of scams out there on Drive clean test.

but r u sure I can get a refund???
coz it's Toyota man...

btw does it matter which gear they use to test? coz mine is an automatic... and the guy who tested my car kept it on D3 while testing... I just think that's weird

I got mine back last year at some other place.

I had a 97, and it failed? WTF? With the usual mod.
So I went to another place and passed with flying color.

Obviously the first shop I went, they either try to scam me so that I might let them fix my car? or they have a busted machine, either way, I show them the reading from another place, and threaten them. They gave me refund. Next time, I will only go to the testing facilities, not a garage.

I am certain that you took the necessary steps b4 you go take the test, like warmed up the car and stuff like that.

yes yes I did do all the necessary steps b4 I take the test
I did the normal tune up ... even have the cat checked to see if it's in working condition....
and I always warm up my car b4 I leave my house ... plus I have to drive to the testing facility...

the thing is that it's not any garage it's TOYOTA... so I don't know about the refund thing....
