Who wants to get involved in Grassroots Motorsports this year?
I’m just gauging interest to see if there’s anyone on this forum might want to try their hand at grassroots motorsports this year. I’m talking about events like Solo2 where you race around a pylon course and are timed or Solo1 where you race around real racetracks and are timed. These are competitive events but also safe and fun. Every car is welcome from grocery getters to all out races cars and everything in between.
If you are you can post your questions here and do my best to answer therm. Or if you have time, feel free to drop by the HADA Motorsports Monthly meeting this Wednesday at Philthy McNasty’s Oakville – it’s actually nicer than it sounds. Anyway, it’s your chance to meet with our club members, ask questions and listen to us trash talk about next season. Members start arriving at 7 but it doesn’t officially start till 8. Just exit QEW at Doval Dr, go north on the North Service road, go right and you’ll see it on your right.
I know TCC is also having a meet on the same night so don’t let this discourage anyone from attending that event. But if you have time as you’re driving to KC or afterwards, please feel free to drop by.
Message was cleared with Cantonagod and Si Veloz.

There's already a few of us here Rex (Jason and I anyway) we've been trying to get more of these guys into Solo2 for awhile, hence our challenge (see the Gatherer / StewPiddass thread).
Guess they're scared of getting their asses handed to them by a couple of D15 powered Civics! All kidding aside, come on out guys, it's a blast! You'll never look back.

Next events
The next HADA event is this Wednesday night. It's kind of just an information session where people interested in the sport can meet us, ask questions and find out how they want to get involved with our club. HADA is also hosting the solo open house that is for both Solo1 and 2 competitors at CSC -that's on April 3rd. Last year, HADA's Autocross series started at the end of April, but we haven't set our calendar yet. The first Solo1 event is the Solo1 school held at the DDT track at Mosport on May 7&8. The first competitive solo1 event is May28/9 weekend at Shannonville. I've just checked the HADA motorsport event calander and events aren't up yet. That's a good calander to keep and eye on and so is the one on wiredmotorsports.com.

I hope to be beginning Solo2 racing this season, depending on the restrictions, hopefully Solo1 as well. I'm told all that's needed for Solo1, is a "Solo-School".. or something to the equivalent of a high-performance driving school, is that true?

for solo 1 you require a basic race license which you can get from joining a CASC-OR affiliated club and then paying the 50 dollar registration fee on top of that. you don't need the school but it is advisable. if your just getting started stick with solo 2 for a few years it's cheaper and you'll learn alot. I've stuck with solo 2 fgor 2 years and I'm only now starting solo 1 and trying for the rookie championship.
let me know if you need any more info

Solo-school
No it's not true. To compete in solo1 all you need is a car, driver's license, join a CASC-affiliated car club like HADA and use of a helmet. That's it. You're not allowed onto the track your first time without an instructor in the car. They may sit in with you for the whole day or until they feel you can safely do it alone without supervision. There's no tests or schools involved.
The reason CASC wants you to be a member of a car club is to ensure sportsman-like conduct. If you're unsportsman like, it's the club's obligation to teach you how to race safely and professionally. If the club fails to do that, the club kicks you out and lose your race license. It's just so the CASC can keep things professional without actually getting involved with individual racers. No one has been kicked out of HADA yet, so unless you're a bigger idiot than we've ever had I say you'd be OK.
You can find more information on Solo on www.soloontario.com
There's also a few other sites know of that can be helpful. This one is for Solo1:
http://www.hadamotorsport.com/racing/solo1.html
This is a really good handbook for solo2. I remember reading it before I started and it was really helpful:
http://www.tirerack.com/features/solo2/handbook.htm
There are 2 race schools you should consider but aren’t mandatory. One is the HADA hosted Solo2 school which is coming up and the Solo1 school that the Mosport DDT track. Both are geared to help new people get into the sport.

I am going to Shannonville on May 28, but I guess it is after the Solo 1 sesson, cause that one starts after 5pm until the track closes.
I would love to joint the school on May 7/8 at Mosport. When is HADA's next meeting? I missed this thread earlier.
