Who here races? Why or why not?
I see tons of members with some great cars on this board, but I never see any(except JSK and gatherer) at the autoX's. I'm just curious as to why?
Thanks

I have an auto-x event planned for almost every week-end this summer... I love this sport, have been doing fairly well so far too. I think I'm tied for first place in PRST (Pocket Rocket Street Touring) in the HADA Series with Brian's ITR, first 2 events were in the rain though... may be a different story when it dries out. He got first and I got second at the first event, then I got second and he got third at the second one.
See you guys at the pro-solo on Monday

I already race my 87 CRX Si. In fact I won my class in the PITL series last year. It's just I see so many "race" type cars here on TCC with big motors, coilovers, tons of bolt-ons, but nobody(well almost nobody) comes out and races. I can't imagine not racing, and Honda's are so awesome for it, I believe I owe it to my car to race it. I can understand the fear that many people have regarding blowing up your DD, but c'mon people, these are Hondas, not DSM's, you can beat the hell out of a Civic and it comes back for more! There is a great race happening on Monday at Square one, it's not for NOOB's(you need to have 3 previous events under your belt), but if you want to see some really competetive racing that mixes road and drag, come check it out.

I race in autocrosses...
when I first got my car it was going to be all show with a kick *** stereo system all fiberglassed in and basically run around the show scene...
then I got thinking....
why enter something thats judged by humans. no one will ever know how good my car is except me. so for the most part I'll leave pissed off. but if I race it's judged by timing equipment and is the same for everyone so if I don't win my class (I haven't yet) I have only myself to blame and can only look at one person for improvement.
anyways Then Dave (former HADA prez) announced on here the HADA solo 2 event last year (for charity) I was interested in going but got tied down with stuff... JSK and Ryanhook talked to me about PITL and went and signed up and also signed up for the solo 2 school that year. well after the school that was it I was hook and the rest is history. last year I even took a trip to red deer alberta to compete in the Nationals.
anyways, I continue racing simply because there are no judges. and I get to go fast in an environment that encourages speed and control and safety. you have more risk of being in an accident on public roads then you do at an autocross (solo 2) or time trial (solo 1)
lots of people say I don't want to wreck my car. or break something. chances are you won't and if you do it probably would have broken on the street anyways. most people here are **** about their cars one little squeek and they worry. well racing won't change that. racing won't increase the amount spent on parts.
anyways come out and try it. one event won't hurt and if you dislike it after that you don't have to come back. but I'll bet 5 bucks that if you try it once you'll be at the next event

to try autocross your looking at between 20 and 40 bucks depending on which event you go to for the entry fee...
I wouldn't say automatics are a huge disadvantage... but manuals give better control over the gears....
SilverCRXSi, yes that sort of sucks you have to work weekends. but paying the bills must come first.

I can consistently beat that kid on his bike and that woman who jogs really really fast every time but not much more.

That's true, a stock car is fine, look at Gatherer's Seriously though, a slow stock car is best to start with so you can focus on driving without power getting in the way. My first year I raced an 85 Civic 1300(with 55 hp) and never finished worse than 3rd place!! So don't be afraid. I can understand if you work on weekends, that's a great reason, but if you just end up washing your ride, and then sitting at Timmy's all day, you should try autocross, you won't regret it.
