Mini Rally Series

The Maple Leaf Rally Club's Wheel & Tire Zone Mini-Rally Series is a set of seven, monthly (April to October), navigational rallies held on good quality gravel and paved county roads just north of Toronto. Anyone can enter and no special knowledge or car preparation is necessary. It is fun, inexpensive, and challenging. Any car or light truck may enter. Bring along a clipboard, pen, paper, and a good watch. A calculator would also be handy, and make sure that your maplight works; darkness falls during the events. Come out and give it a try.

Where/When/How much: The rallies start and finish at the Petro-Canada Service Centre on Highway 400 North, about 20 kilometres north of Highway 401. This complex contains a Tim Horton's, Wendy's, and a Mr Submarine. When you arrive, please park at the rear of the lot. Registration opens at 6:30 p.m. Please have the car's ownership (or written permission from the owner) and proof of insurance with you. The first car will start at 8:01 p.m. and is due back at the finish by about 10:00 p.m. The rallies are approximately 100 kilometres in length. The entry fee for non-MLRC members is $25 per car. If both the driver and navigator are members of MLRC, the entry fee is $20.

Wow what an experience. I must say, I wasn't sure what to expect from this, but it was fun, challenging, entertaining, intense, exciting and frustrating all the same time.

Sam and I did well, given the fact that neither of us had any previous experience. The only training we had was a 5 minute briefing by one of the experts, and a hand book.

Communication and understanding the instructions are key. Sam and I (I made more) obviously made some mistakes our first time out. Next time we won't make the same mistakes.

I recommend this is to everybody. It offers a different kind of driving experience. And in a sea full of Subaru's, Sam's Honda performed extremely well.

It was an awesome time, I think James and I made an excellent team. :shakehand

Navigational Rallying is about thinking and team work and staying cool headed under pressure, more than about driving or performance.

Needless to say, James had the more difficult task of being the Navigator. I had it easy just driving. :drivesafe

Looking forward to the next rally June 14th

a word of caution to those who are interested, my car performed very well on my sport springs, however I would not recommend this to anyone riding lower thatn 2"

I just managed to clear a dead racoon in the middle of the road, however I think his head hit my mid pipe... :shrugs:
