Don't do the Y8 head swap, you will not really notice any more power from it. Get suspension, and some good tires that grip. Suspension and tires are the main things to start with if your going to track your car.

I thought the y7 IM was super restrictive though...

i would get suspension first, because with stock suspension, your car will just get a **** load of body roll, and you will not grip the track, with suspension your car will not have that body roll as much, and in turn, your car will handle better. Still get the i/h/e, but i would get suspension first tho, but that's just me.

No one aksed what kind of track.

Lapping you can run a stock car. I plan on running mine this summer. A helmet is encouraged and I believe they do a safety inspection, but thats it. There are several forums that have track days. ********* and Sonic Velocity to name 2.

Auto-X is a different story. You start modding your stock suspension and it changes the category in which you are competing and you will most likely lose badly.

What is the budget? What will the car be used for? Is there anything already done to it?

Now this http://www.torontocivics.com/tccv5forums/t152147/ would make a wicked project/track car. Way better then any Civic or Teg.

my buddy considered buying that. but we thought a body with 300km would mean tonnes of suspension wear/failure and 200km engine would mean carbon build up and engine rebuild...

wouldn't it take more to keep that thing running than to just buy something less "used"??

Exactly. It would spank many more expensive cars on a track. Even if that 1000 beater needed work, it would be a great project car.

And what is your budget? Because you can accomplish a lot with $3000, but with $1000 you'll need to compromise. So if you want some help you'll need to let us know. Also, these lapping events you want to do are just for fun right? Nothing competitive?

Also, what is your experience with lapping? Suspension in general?

Cheers.
