Shopping for a hemlet, where to go?
As the season approaches, I need to get myself prepared, safety first.
I have done some research and know the difference between SA and M rated helmets, well more or less. I am thinking getting a full face SA helmet because I will be doing track events as well as some Solo 2. I am not sure about Solo 1 yet, but the Shannonville track has an early bird event on Aprial 23, not a full track event but does require helmet.
Don't want to order online yet because I want to try it on first and compare prices. Anyone knows a reputable shop that sells helmets? Thanks

for track unless you have a cage all you need is a M rated helmet... 2005 is the next year for for the Snell ratings. With that stated they won't come out till at least October. so find a good M2000 rated helmet and go for it.
you also have to worry about open and closed faced helmets. a closed face helmet has a part of it coveringt he jaw and chine of the person. an open faced helmet doesn't have that. you need a closed faced helmet if you do any karting.
so I recommend going to cycle world and getting a closed faced M2000 rated helmet. if you still want a SA2000 rated helmet you will have to go up to CSC racing in newmarket to get one.

No cage or roll bar yet for this year, so M rating is fine I suppose. But I am not sure if a roll cage or roll bar will be installed next year. But anyway.
Where is this Cycle World you mentioned?

Car helmet and bike helmet go through different crash settings, hence SA and M rating.
If a roll cage/bar is present inside the car, then SA rating helmet must be needed. Otherwise, a M rating for autoX is allowed.
That's from what I have read.

I'd def get the full face helmet... and I'd buy online too just make sure you get the right size to fit your head or you can buy from Summit Racing, they'll have SA helmets for your needs.

If you're shopping for SA helmets, the 3 GTA retailers to check out are JRP (Sparco), CSC (Bell) and Fast Eddie (Simpson)
There are plenty of mail-order places in the States, but you don't have the luxury of test-fitting first.

SA stands for special application... M for Motorcycle... the big difference between them is simple watch a WRC car roll over... if they show the driver you'll see that normally they are nicely strapped and the head is far fromt he cage bars.. however when the roll over happens they are nice strapped in but the cage gives a bit this causes the head to bounce off the bars... the special application helmet is designed for multiple hard impacts.
now look at the Motorcycle driver....(racer or street driver) watch a wipe out on a bike. The head doesn't nearly impact as often. ussuallyy only one large impact and a few minor ones./ the majority of the damage is to the rest of the body from sliding along the ground. these helmets are good for only 1 large impact... if you were to use Motorcycle helmet on a WRC driver during a roll over the helmet would eventually split during this crash event...
anyways there's some info...
I still recommend going to CSC racing if you want a SA helmet because they sponsoring the motorsports done in Ontario. if you want a M rated helmet go to cycle world. (I recommend cycle world because of their great service I've experienced

I will see the price then decide. I want to get the SA rating simply because in the future, a cage might be in the car. I don't want to go through the trouble of buying another.
Plus, helmet is a personal thing, I would not want to wear a loaner one or sell mine, the sweat and **** that stays inside the helmet is disgusting.
