I would go with either manley or eagle I-beam rods. Also OEM Honda rings. Only downside I see is the OEM pistons. The higher compression OEM pistons would not be ideal for very high horsepower. Using lower compression 8.5:1 or 9:1 would be more ideal to reach higher numbers.

What will be your power goals? Anything in mind? Keeping it under 300whp would be safe with stock rods. Could save you a bit of money on something that would not be required.

make up your mind now if you want to boost or not. If your answer is yes, get low compression pistons, if your answer is no, get high compression pistons. Low compression lets you use higher boost safely, netting you more hp. High compression nets you more hp in a naturally aspirated engine. Most importantly, after everything is done get it tuned. Honda rings, JE pistons, depending on your goals, you can stick with stock rods, or eagle rods.

i probably will be boosting it somewhere down the line
my goals in terms of hp wise?
hmm endless haha
but realistically ide say any where from 300-400whp
even if its low 300's i dont mind

so low compression OEM honda rings? with eagle I-Beam rods and JE pistons?

and wheres a good spot to purchase these products?

if you go into honda asking for low compression rings, their gonna look at you like your a retard, lol. Rings are rings. Personally i would buy the parts off ebay. As long as your getting quality parts off a GOOD seller, your golden. Check to see if any local sellers can match or some close to the prices. I recomend tek notic and jdmengine land.

You can safely run 300-350whp on stock pistons. The compression matters but if you are not going to turbo the car right away, do NOT swap pistons. It will be slow...very slow. You can always install a thicker headgasket to reduce compression slightly. Or just rely on a good tune. Higher compression with boost is just more likely to detonate, but as long as you have a good tune, it shouldn't be a problem.

Though you should most definitely swap the rods, since those tend to snap. Also oem rings will be just fine.

Look up the build by froz3n, he ran his d-series I believe with just rods Upto 400+whp.

You'll also want to run all ARP hardware. Main bearing, rod and head studs.

ahhh

lol u know what i was thinking about that now
if i dont boost it now
and change the pistons it would be slow hahah and u confirmed it lol

so basically i should just beat around the motor for now until im serious and save up the $$ then change everything
that looks like the smartest route to go

Also, consider this (and I'm not trying to talk you out of it, just inform); Anything more then 300whp in a front wheel drive car is basically useless on the street and boardering the edge of control with sticky track tires.

That is the downside of fwd. Asking the front tires to steer and put down that much power usually ends up in massive understeer and lots of smoke...lol.

Don't get me wrong, you can build it with as much power as you want, and it will be fun to drive, but just beware. Anything over 250whp in a lightweight fwd car is PLENTY.

A "healthy" gs-R with a "GOOD" Tune using "GOOD" parts will make 300+whp @ 8-9psi.
For those power goals you do "not" need to build the motor.

Purchase a spare block, slowly build that one. Srp/JE pistons with some SCAT rods, arp head studs, new hg = 400whp - 450whp ALL DAY on a "GOOD" Tune!

Let us know when you’re ready and we will help

BOOOOST FTW!
