d16y7: to replace, rebuild, and/or boost? shop recommendations

Hey all! Went to change my plugs last night and found something ugly in cylinder 3, long story short I need to replace or rebuild! This is where I need some recommendations since I'm new to the honda game. Should I rebuild? Or replace? I am looking to run a very mild boost setup, nothing more than 180hp. I figure this should be a decent balance between performance and reliability.

This being said I also need to find a decent shop to do all this work for me, I would usually attempt this myself but time is an issue for me. I am looking to spend no more than 3k, so any input is appreciated! Thanks gents!

A replacement y7 is cheap and easier than rebuilding. Of course as long as its in good condition, it would be the easiest way to go.

If you are planning on going boost, I'd suggest either a d16z6/d15b/d16y8. Will have to convert to obd1 anyways for turbo tuning purposes. These engines run for anywhere from 350-500$ depending where you get it and condition. Most shops will charge 400-600$ for labour to install. So really a 3grand budget is way too much. Can get a B series swap with that budget and with a small turbo, 250whp would be very reliable and not stressing internals too much. Cheap b-series swaps like b18b/b20b will fit in your budget with labour.

What about a d16zc? I can source one locally with 180 dollars for about 300. As far as the b series, I have seen a few b20's at jdmpower for around 500ish, thanks a lot for the info dude, ill keep on researching and check further into the b series

Also, if you swap to a b-series motor, you'll also need to swap in a b-series transmission.

^You'd have to use b-series axles and a chipped OBDI ecu with the proper tune, and depending on the year of the car, you'd need an OBDII-OBDI conversion harness.

it's a 2000, so I would deff need an OBD conversion harness. The reason I was considering and still am considering sticking with a d-series is so I don't have to get into switching transmissions and axles. Things get pricey after that. I can get my hands on a d16zc locally with fidenza flywheel, and a few other small goodies for $400, although it has 180,000k on it, which is a little higher mileage than I was hoping for, it still seems a reasonable deal. I just need to find a reputable shop to do all this work, hopefully in the next 2 weeks, I am located in ottawa but am willing to bring the car to toronto if need be.
