y7 to y8
i need to swap the motor in my winter car.
i was thinking of going from d16y7 to d16y8. The car is auto and i want to keep it like that. i cant seem to find a complete d16y8 auto swap. so my questions are: are the engine and tranny mounts same for and auto and manual? can i use a d16y7 auto transmission with the y8? is the d16y8 engine wiring harness same for auto and manual? i know the shafts are different for manual and auto. ecu is different. Anything else i need to know. I cant find a full auto swap so i figure i would piece the parts together. Get a engine from a 5speed car and so on. |
theres different brackets on the intake manifold and i believe there is and extra sensor on the auto wring harnes that the standard harness doesnt have
|
you can use the d16y7 auto tranny, but make sure to buy an auto engine, it'll save yourself some troubles. Although going from a y7 to y8 will already take some customizing of the wiring (extending wires for sensors to reach their new location).
If you use a 5spd engine, the intake manifold will be different. This is b/c the 5spd y8 engines use a 2-wire IACV mounted on the back of the intake manifold, whereas the automatic engines use a 3-wire EACV mounted on the bottom of the throttle body. |
thanks for the reply eveyone...please keep them coming.
zeeman: the engine i am looking at is from 96-98 el and is 5speed but at the same time i have a complete y8 auto intake sitting at home from a 99-00 si. as for wiring what if i get the wiring with the engine...would that save me the hassle of customizing? |
if you get the 96-98 SI auto harness that would save you any hassles....I think, i'm not 100% sure though as I don't deal with automatics very much.

even auto or manual shafts, they're both the same.

UPDATE
Going to go through swapping to 5spd. Question: What is the difference between 1998 1.6 EL Intake Manifold ECU AND 1999 1.6EL Intake manifold ECU Correct me if i am wrong: OBD2A = 1998 OBD2B = 1999 + Now would it matter if i used 1998 intake manifold and ecu and put it on 1999 y8 with 1999 y8 engine harness?? |

You can use the shafts for y7 to y8. y8 just has the abs gear for the sensor but it doesn't really matter cuz your car doesn't have abs I believe.

Thanks that helps....so i need to buy a 99-00 si or EL ecu.
ANY ONE HAS ONE??? |

ANY ONE HAS ONE??? Personally, if I already had what you have (OBD2a ECU, OBD2b Engine harness) I would just re-pin the harness to match the OBD2a specs. No extra money is involved than..or if you dont feel comfortable doing it than i guess looking for a OBD2b P2P or PBA ECU will work. BTW here's the exact pins you need to worry about plugging the 2nd O2 sensor into... OBD2a 2nd 02 Sensor ECU Connector White Wire TO D14 - Sensor Heater 02 Signal (SH02S) Green Wire TO D11 - Sensor Ground 2 (SG2) Black Wire TO A5 - Secondary Heater 02 Control (S02HTC) Black Wire TO A11 - Power Source 1 (1GP1) OBD2b 2nd 02 Sensor ECU Connector White Wire TO A23 - Sensor Heater 02 Signal (SH02S) Green Wire TO C18 - Sensor Ground 2 (SG2) Black Wire TO A8 - Secondary Heater 02 Control (S02HTC) Black Wire TO B1 - Power Source 1 (1GP1) |

I have for sale a complete EL swap!
Complete everything! Motor,trans,mounts,axels,linkage,ecu..... MINT MINT MINT!!!! PM ME |
3rdgen3 the ecu i have are
1999 y8 auto ecu 1996 y7 5spd ecu. both of which i doubt will work. the 2 routes i think i can go are -get a P2P ecu for 5spd 99-00 or -P28 chipped with OBD2 --> OBD1 conversion harness. I think getting the right ecu will be cheaper what other problems can i expect 3rdgen? seems like you did the same thing i am doing. |

I think getting the right ecu will be cheaper The P28 chipped ECU is nice because you wont have to run a rear o2 but it will cost more money sine it will require a jumper harness plus those ECU's are fairly expensive. Also if you plan on keeping the car relatively stock, like stock engine, i personally prefer OBD2...

Anyways, the problems you will run into really depends on what ECU and harness you use. I would highly recommend finding yourself a 5-speed Civic Si/Acura EL engine harness if you dont feel comfortable doing a lot of wiring, but even if you do that you still have to wire in the 2ndary O2 sensor (easy). If you use an auto wiring harness though, you have a lot more to re-wire if you want things to work properly....still pretty easy but its not AS plug-and-play. |
I picked up a p2p ecu obd2b.
Now hopefully that would solve the ecu problem.

Which harness do you have right now? Is it for OBD2a or OBD2b?

So far this is what i have. All is going into ek. 99 y8 engine 96 y7 5 spd tranny 00 si p2p obd2 ecu 99 y8 auto engine harness considering what i have listed....potential problems? |
