When to start considering ECU tuning?

I have a p28 ecu sitting at home ready to be tuned if I need it (needs to be converted from auto to manual and chipped).

My mods include a CAI with K&N filter, a Skunk2 intake manifold, DC sport 4-2-1 header, high flow Magnaflow cat, 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust, stage 1 clutch and 8.5lb flywheel.

Should I be looking at ecu tuning at this point? Would my stock ecu be able to compensate for increase in airflow (ie. reset the ecu - pull the fuse)? Advantages? Disadvantages?

Thanks.

you never really stated what engine you have
If I was you and I had some extra cash around, I would spend it on camshaft(s) and a decent valvetrain upgrade and then get a tune.
I look at my tune that got as the last step to my build. Now its time to enjoy it. This way you avoid all the retuning

ANY car will benefit from ecu tuning, better gas mileage, better throttle response, better WOT power, even if you don't have that many mods.

I would say if you change your cam(s), increase the compression, turbo, supercharge or use n20 is when you absolutely MUST tune the car, but for bolt-ons i wouldn't say its absolutely necessary to ensure the car will run properly, but you will definately benefit from tuning.
