Weird Whine Noise - HELP PLZ! (the sooner the better)
Alright so I went with a friend to look at a 98 cx hatch. W/ a D16y7.
It has 285,000, and when you rev the car at idle there is a weird whine noise that u hear on the driver side under the hood. It doesn't sound like an alternator belt and the car doesn't have power steering or a/c. And it is NOT coming from the alternator.
The whine:
It almost sounds like an electric motor whine. It is had to describe almost like and electric drill.
The Owner:
Said he had the timing belt done about 36,000 ago but didn't do the water pump.
Other than that the car is in amazing shape.
ANY thoughts or ideas anything, feel free to post. Any help is appreciated
Thanks in advance!

So it has to be something that spins...your bearings in the water pump are probably on their way out...unfortunately it will only get louder from here if that's what it is. Hey at least you can drive around sounding like you have a supercharger in your car! haha

Title: Noisy Water Pump
SYMPTOM:
A humming or whining noise coming from the water pump. The noise is most audible below 1100 rpm, and occurs only when the coolant is at normal operating temperature.
NOTE: This noise is often mistaken to be a dry or faulty alternator bearing. Diagnose the symptom carefully.
PROBABLE CAUSE:
Normal friction between water pump shaft and seal.
CORRECTIVE ACTION:
Add the water pump lubricant listed under PARTS INFORMATION to the radiator coolant.
There are no TSBs for the 1999 Honda Accord water pumps but If it is just noisy I don't see what harm adding some Honda water pump lubricant, P/N 08798-9005, would do. It can only help I believe.

The best way is to remove the drive belts & start the engine if the noise goes away its one of your drive belts or your alternator. If the noise is still there it could be your water pump or tensioner. It could be the alternator, sometimes it does not sound like it but it could be the alternator.
