hey guys i drive a 96 civic and lately, every once in a while ive been hearing a loud screeching noise from the driver's side of my engine bay when i start up my car, i figured it could be either my power steering belt or my water pump wat do u guys think

ps. that noise went off when i was driving once but when i clutched it the noise disapeared instantly

could be any of the belts (not the timing belt). Check them out for excessive wear, cracking or glazing and make sure they're tensioned properly.

most likey from pass times id say prolly just a loose belt usally powersteering but like zeeman said

Do you have a/c? If so, check out that a/c idler pulley. Very common failure.. That's if the belts aren't all cracked.

spray WD 40 on the pully that you suspect to be the cause, and you would know that its the problem if the noise rises... i found it helpfull

The wd40 trick doesn't always work.

The best diag would be to remove each belt one at a time untill the noise stops.

so applied some last week and so far its been good but im pretty sure the power steering belt needs tightening cause when i crank my steering wheel all the way i hear a loud screeching noise
