Hi all,

New member here.

I have a 2001 Mazda Protege ES with 135xxx km's. There is an engine knock and the mechanic says that I need to get the engine replaced.

I don't really want to keep the car (selling for $2500 if anyone interested -can be found on Kijiji, Craigslist and TOProtege) and want to get into a 5th gen Prelude pretty soon.

Not really interested in low-ballers. I'm not poor or desperate.

Now - that being said - if I can't get the sale made soon I might think about swapping a vtec engine into this car (GSR, SIR, Prelude). Something that is vtec and at least 160hp.

Does anyone know of any shops in Toronto that do this sort of hybrid work.

Does anyone know what the costs may be?

I have to evaluate all options at this point - and this may be cheaper than selling the Protege and buying a 5th gen for $8000. The net loss in that scenario is about 6 g's. So if doing a engine swap into the old car costs 4 g's that is definitely something I would consider.

The cost would be more then you'd be willing to spend. Custom mounts, axles, shift linkage, wiring, etc would all be required.
