vtec?!?!?!!??

Hey, ive been tackling this vtec for a while now. Its not kicking in (d16z6 minime), i have the p28 ecu, i thought it was the oil pressure but i changed it like 3x already, bought a second vtec solenoid from the scrap (both work), and i duno what else.. im out of ideas.

Someone was saying something about secondaries not kicking in on the ECU? i have no idea.

blahhhhhhhhhh help LOL

05CivicSi 05-Dec-2008 08:47 AM

what year/trim car?

civicEJ1 05-Dec-2008 09:59 AM

z6 so probably an EJ1 or hatch Si

zeeman 05-Dec-2008 10:07 AM

well alot of the times you can't really hear/feel vtec on SOHC VTEC engines.

Secondaries not kicking in on the ecu?
That doesn't make sense. The only engine/ecu that has "secondaries" is the b18c1 (p72 ecu).

Did you run the wires for vtec (to the ecu) yourself? I would double check all connections and solder and heat-shrink all connections.

hey hey hey hey hey on MYY d16z6 the vtec screams lol like literally when it hits 5 u really hear it andu dont really feel anything though lol but supposedly hteres like a little screw u can turn on the throttle body it adjusts the idle and how much air goes in or something? cuzz mine like sucks air u juss hear a lot of air going in loud so thats why one guy said thats tjhe only reason i can hear my vtec so loud

zeeman 05-Dec-2008 10:46 AM

i've heard a bunch of SOHC VTECs that have a loud crossover, usually when they have an intake or header. But the majority of them I've seen/worked on/owned don't have a very distinct audible noise with the vtec crossover.

This is what I was getting at. The only car you wouldent need to run new wires is a vtec car or a 92.

my jdm soch used to kick in loud when i first installed it. Sounded good when i went to one of the dyno days a year or two ago. now i barely evn notice a sound change when i hit vtec and i def don't feel it. It is working though and kicks in a little. I have full apexi ws2 exhaust, generic headers and whale penis intake. vtec sound better when i had stock headers, axel back 5zeigen exhaust, and generic short arm intake. Stupid vtec.

I went for a ride in my mechanics 94-96 prelude with new h22a and that vtec scares the shyt out of me!!!!! i wish mine was that loud

that's what i would like mine to sound like without doing the whole engine upgrade.

You should hear a h22 with skunk2 stage2's. Skunk2 cams have one of the loudest crossovers IMO.

starboy869 05-Dec-2008 02:41 PM

you could always install a vtec light for your dash to let you know when you've entered vtec. a little rice imo however some people like it.

cam 05-Dec-2008 03:00 PM

yea ive installed a vtec light just to see if the ecu is sending power and it was. i even went so far as to install a switch to engage it myself (randy i kno) but i didnt notice a damn thing even at diff. rpm ranges.

its a 92 civic hb dx with the d16z6 head mated.

how sensitive is the vtex to oil presssure ( i dont have a guage) what if there were a leak somewhere...? maybe losing some psi?

- maybe the head is warped and its not mating properly?

- maybe too much torque to notice crossover? (fidanza 7lbs flywheeel, short ram k&n intake, 4-1 headers, alum. underdrive pulley, mild p&P head and tb...)

- maybe the guy who sold me the head just wanted me to suffer?

who knows... these are just some posibilities lol

lemme know what u think (thnx for the previous replies)

p.s. for ****s and giggles, were I to install crower stage 2 cam on my d16z6 would i need to replace the other compenents of the valve train? ie. springs, keepers......??:drivesafe:

crower recommends that you upgrade the valvetrain with their stg2.

civicEJ1 05-Dec-2008 03:47 PM

what cam is good to put in if u just want a little more power, and u dont have to change anything? d16z6 singlecam

MrX 05-Dec-2008 03:58 PM

zex 59100 can be used with stock valvetrain and gives noticeable gain with I/H/E.

Very true....Have one in my d15b engine and it rocks!
People think its a b16.....My ZC sohc engine is rocking a custom Bisi level 2 cam and it is definetly the most aggresive cam I've had in a Sohc. I'm pushing 163whp NA with it.
You definetly need to upgrade the springs if your going stage2, but your stock retainers are fine. I've pushed sets past 9000 with no problem.
Sure you can keep stock springs with a stage 2.....but you have to retain your stock redline. So your basically not getting the most out of your cam.

whoa whoa whoa....i have a stock d15b with apexi full exhaust, whale penis intake, generic headers, and i'm trying to find a way for more power withou doing engine swap/turbo. I was once told to do stage to clutch or get betters cams:

do can i do to solve this problem, please advise all parts needed to do this.

thanks again
