B20Z swap - 6th gen

Hello everyone,

Just have a few questions here.

I want to swap a B20Z in to my EK Si (99).

From what I was told, the motor/tranny drops in with the stock mounts and there should be enough room for the hood to close. I was told by someone else that this wouldn't work b/c the hood wouldn't close b/c the motor sits too high...is this true?

What additional stuff would I need for this swap? Does the B20Z take regualr 87 or does it require 91?

Thanks all.

B20B/Z will bolt on just like any other B series. Except the real-time AWD tranny will not, so you will either have to use a LS/GSR/ITR/CTR tranny.

Hood will close, the reason that it "might" not is because some B20 engine comes with tall neck intake manifold, and some don't. You want the ones that don't come with the tall neck manifold for obvious reason. So motor sitting too high is not the reason, and it will not sit high. 6th gen SiR is B series, and it sits fine.

All B20 takes 87, so no need for 89, 91 or even 94.

Additional things you will need:
engine mount (Hasport or SiR ones)
SiR radiator (stock D16 will work, but the neck is too small)
OBD2b to OBD1 conversion harness (for tuning)
P75 OBD1 ECU (for tuning/chipping)
Rear engine mount bracket from SiR (they call it "K" mount)

I can't remember what else is there, but it is fairly an easy and straight forward swap. Most shops can take care of these parts for you no problem.

Long block along varies from 400 to 500 dollars, tranny depends on what type you get, 98' spec ITR 4.7 FD version might cost above $1000 dollars, of course, LS tranny should be less. All the other parts can be bought used, and the rest is labour, which again, varies between $500 to about $1000 dollars.

You can probably have someone install it for you, while you supply all the parts for close to or under $3000 dollars.

wow, thank you very much for all of that info, greatly appreciated!

Once quick question though...isn't the car and motor both obd2? plug and play wouldn't work? I just want to do the swap and leave it, not intersted in doing anything else to it or chipping, etc...shouldn't the harness and ecu work? would an sir ecu work b/c I can get one for cheap..

Thanks

I am not sure about using an OBD2 B series ECU, I suppose there are ways to do it, but the easy way out has been using OBD1, and use just one O2 sensor.

SiR ECU is for VTEC, so you will have to chip it to ger rid off the program (I am not sure if I explain it correctly, ECU tuning is not my forte).

You could prolly use the B20 crv computer if you want plug and play as that is obd2 but the motor will not run as well as it could with a tuned chip

yeah.. goodluck getting a cr-v ecu to work.

You're best option IMO is to convert to obd1 and get a custom tune (zeeman does this) There is no stock b20 map you can put on an ecu that will work perfect, nor is there any ecu that will work.

thanks a lot again

It looks like the B20B is a lot easier to find (unfortunately slower though)...would the same apply for a swap with this motor as well?

Thanks
