P0303 Cylinder 3 missfire

So i've been getting a code 303, i took out the plugs and took a picture of them below. From left to right you have Cylinder 1,2,3,4.

Its clear that cylinder 3 has some issues. I changed out the plugs and wires and put in some lucas fuel injector cleaner and reset my CEL. if it still continues to get the code what are my next steps ?

- check for vaccum leaks
- compression test
- get the fuel injectors cleaned professionally

i don't wanna spend too much money as the car already has 310 730km on it. Also I changed the cap and rotor last September

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do a compression and leak down test.

It's possible your piston rings are worn or the head gasket is on it's way out... or both.

so the misfire code came back a day after i changed out the plugs and wires. i finally got around to bringing my car into the shop was told that cylinder 3 has no compression so now i'm asking myself, should i swap in a used motor or get a new car,

the car has almost 312, 000km. i've changed the passenger front wheel bearing and it has tokiko blues and s-tech springs, everything else is stock.

what should i do, i don't wanna spend too much $ and i'm thinking with the $ i spend on a swap, i could use that towards a new car.

If it were me, I'd swap in another motor and keep driving it.

With proper maintenance and care, an older car will still cost less to operate than making payments on a new(er) car.

hey thanks, i'm leaning more to getting an engine swapped in, but i don't know where to start, i was checking hivelocity's site and they seem to have a good price for installs, but i need to find a motor. Was thinking a B20, but I don't know what to look for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just replace with another y8. Could be had for cheap.

If you want a b-series like b20/b16 etc, you will need quite the few things.
Engine
Transmission
Mounts
Driveshafts
Shifter linkage
Ecu and possibly a conversion harness

Unless you want more power/upgrade, don't bother.

ya, your right, i don't need more power, and the b series are looking pricey for a complete swap (rather put that $ into a new car)

i'll look around for a d16y8 engine.

thanks

+1 Cheaping it stock. If the Body is Worth It
One suggestion, Mike my clarify for me, if you think you want more power. Look at the imported ZC engines. They're DOHC, non VTEC, and I think it's a direct swap. Also, check out the Mini me. (Did I do that right, I know little about D Series).

+1 Getting a new car instead. For a few grand you can get someone's old B series setup car. Hell I sold my 96' HB Skunk2 Pro-S suspension, Sparco Seats, GS-R Cluster, and a B18C ITR w/ S80 for $1700... Deals are out there. Check the Classifieds, and maybe some classifieds of banned sites too from Toronto.

I think most cars newer then your '00 are junk compared to what pre '00's were anyway. stay with the y8 if you just want to keep the car the way it was, but spend some extra coin while it's out and get a new timing belt and water pump.

You should do the leak down test though first to see if it's rings or valves. You may be able to get the rings changed or if it's valves just get a used head for even less then a motor, but if you can find a JDM VTEC OBD-II D series from a reputable vendor, with warranty, I'd go that route as this would get you a good low(er) km's motor.

If you wanted to do the B20 then you'd need the other parts DTP listed and if you hunt around you can find everything for cheaper then a complete B16/18 VTEC swap.

If there is any doubt about the diagnosis given to you by the tech that told you there's no comp in #3 and you still think it could be the injector, or for future reference, if you think the injector or spark plug etc,is the problem, move it to a different cylinder and see if the problem follows the suspect part to the new cylinder.

I think he's need a conversion harness and an ECU. Pretty sure the DOHC D's were OBD-I and older. That's be an extra ~$150+ for the same power and 10+ year older engine. Don't get me wrong though I just bough 2 d16a1 DOHC engines a month ago. But that's to build a motor that is a good swap-tion for my '87 CRX, his is a '00.

To swap a B-series in your car you're looking at a minimum of atleast $1500-2000 I'd say. (depending on if you want v-tec or not)

And that's with cheap parts, using the old clutch, timing belt, etc.
