Overheating problems

Hey guys, my civic (d16 engine) overheated early summer on the way to wasaga beach, from mississauga. The coolant came out everywhere, from the resevoir but i refilled the coolant in the radiator and was able to make it home, I then replaced the radiator, and thermostat.

There was never any problem with daily driving to work (around 20km)
but yesterday I drove to wasaga again , and it overheated (temp at red) at around 90km. The heat jumped HIGH when i slowed down from highway speed. When I opened the hood, there was coolant everywhere and the radiator hose was expanded. Again, i refilled the coolant and was able to make it home wiht the temp needle just at 50% the whole way.
(which is still hot for a d16)

I thought it might've been the fan, so just now, I wired the fan to always be on but havn't gotten a chance to test it out (esp. since it only seems to overheat driving long distances)

My question is, What else could possibly be causing the engine to overheat, and what other components are associated with the cooling system that I can check? Thanks in advance!

headgasket homie!

my 4th gen did the same thing as well as my northstar cadillac...that or your water pump isnt moving coolant efficiently causing it to boil

^ that waterpump problem you USUALLY see it on plastic finned pumps. Ecotec 2.3's are known for it. So I would personally start with matt's first suggestion. Headgasket failure. Do a leakdown test
