Exclamation need help...no electrical power!

Hey!

I have a new problem now... car is losing electrical power.....it doesn't have enough power to start and the wipers are slow and the lights are very dim but if I boost it it runs fine....still lacking power and everything runs slowly but it wont die, which tells me maybe the alternator is working but maybe there is a bad connection with the battery somewhere or the battery is not holding a charge (even though it's fairly new). I had a similar problem with the car when I got it almost a year ago. It kept on burning out alternators....it turns out it there was a short in the engine wiring harness somewhere so that was changed and everythings been fine since. The reason I'm saying this is because when I was having alternator problems the car would die completely and even if it was boosted as soon as the cables were removed the car would die....but this is not happening now so that s why I think the alternator is still working....Anyways I need some advice as to where to go from here...Oh and when the car was idling I wiggled the terminals on the battery and I heard the engine surge so maybe I will start by taking the terminal connectors off and re-doing them...
Please help,
Jamie

I would start by cleaning and tighten your battery terminals and connections first.

I wouldn't jump the gun too quickly. Maybe your connections are too poor to charge the battery correctly. If your still having issues after cleaning your terminals I would get the battery load tested. Canadian Tire and just about any parts will do this for free.

I would start by going to a shop and getting a proper AVR test done.

k thanks everyone...I will start by checking the connections and testing the alternator voltage to see if it's even working...if the alternator is working then I will take the battery for testing and go from there...if anyone else has any suggestions that maybe I'm overlooking please let me know!
Thanks,
Jamie

Hey,
so i just did a voltage test and came to the conclusion that my alternator is fried....10.5 volts and constantly dropping, not around 14 like it should be....looks like its a rebuild for me! lol hopefully I can get this one out ok!
