mini me help

i just did a y8 head on my 93 dx and i cant get it to run smooth its starts up ruff then as it heats up idle is at 1200-1300 rpm am guessing the timing is off cuz it made a clinging nosie when i drove it i played with the cam gear n distributor i got it to stop making that nosie but it still doesnt seem right. dont know what esle to try i went out got a new 92-95 si distributor tryed that n the dx distributor works better, is there wiring needed or wrong distributor? any info will help thanxs

You have to use vtec distributor for the y8(vtec) head. You also have to hook up your vtec to your ecu. Did you use a timing gun when you checked your timing?

depends, what year dizzy do you have? 96-98? or 99-00?
Either way it'll take a little bit of customizing, but the 99-00 dizzy is way easier to use b/c its much less hassle.
But you 100% DO NOT have to use a vtec dizzy, your DX dizzy will do just fine. I've done this many many times, even on b-series' you can use a LS/B20 dizzy on a DOHC VTEC head (with minor modification to the dizzy housing). There is no difference (other than housing) between vtec and non vtec dizzys, they all still have CYP, CKP, TDC sensors, ICM and a coil, its not like the vtec dizzy's have an extra "vtec related" sensor inside of them.
First thing i'd be checking is cam timing, make sure you lined up the marks on the camshaft gear so that UP faces UP and the 2 marks at 3 and 9 o'clock are parallel to the suface that the valve cover sits on. Being off by a tooth or two can have a dramatic effect on the way the car will run.
And you definately NEED to use a timing light when setting the base ignition timing (via the dizzy). And just as a note, as you adjust the cam gear (if you have an adjustable one) you NEED to move the dizzy to adjust it back to 16 degrees (or w/e its supposed to be on your specific application) this only applies to the intake cam on a DOHC engine since the dizzy is attached to the intake cam on DOHC's.

What zeeman is saying is right on the money but one other thing that I noticed you did not mention is did you use a SI timing belt or did you re-use the DX? Si has one more tooth than the DX and that will through your timing right out , also remember the Si timing mark for the came is different than the dx. Let me know if you need some help timing it properly.

the dx timing belt didnt work it was too long i belive the one i used was si i read that if i use a 1.5 bottom i need to adjust the cam 1/2 a tooth for the difference. after buying the z6 dizzy my mechanic put the cam all the way to one side n positioned the dizzy to where the car ran better then before.
i belive the car is running lean cuz i removed the new spark plugs n the are white.so if i go with the 99-00 dizzy it would need to be repined n i know the vtec isnt hooked up n am not concerned about vtec yet wanna get the motor running right frist but there no wiring that needs to be done?when i start the car it idles at 0 rpm at frist i give gas n boggs for awhile before it shoots up then after sitting on the gas at 2000rpm does it start to warm up i checked the ecu codes n its gave me 1 2 3 4 6 7 not in that order there all sensors (not sure on that ) one of them is my speedo my speedo hasnt worked in a year so i know that. if pictures on the position of the dizzy n cam would help i can take some. thanxs for the help so far if u guys lived closer i would drive up there n show u the problem cuz i know its hard to try n understand what im writing eaiser to see the problem n run some test thanxs again for ur help
