Mild Ls build advice??

Hi,

I'm considering a mild LS non-V build. I've done some research, and I want to know if what I'm finding is realistic. I'm going non-V b/c it seems LsV or Swaps are pretty pricey. I'm after more lower RPM/usable/stoplight to stoplight power for a DD, something in the 160whp range. This will be on DC2.

So far, the list:

Crower Stage 2 62403-2 324.04 Valve Springs & Retainers 331.56 Hondadata S300??? 595 P30 Pistons 100 AEM Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator 207.43 AEM Adjustable Cam Gear 127.98 ARP Rod Bolts 36.5 Skunk2 Racing Pro IM 239 GSR Hydro Tranny 600 Hondadata IM Gasket 60
TOTAL: $2621.51!!!!!!

And this is without labor and a tune! Can this be right?? Can I do a mild engine build for less?? I considered an LsV but it will cost even more than this. Is that right? Experts help?

thx

Ed

We gotta help you bro, someones gonna rape you, lol!! A Vtec head is a better idea. it shouldn't cost too much . you can find them for like $350 . you'll need the vtec dizzy along a few other things.
for the parts you listed, don't forget to multiply the price of the cams and cam gears by 2 , Dual Cam, lol. if you do the math, that'll be over 3grand.
you don't need a Hondata, although it's awesome. but not necessary. you forgot that with Hondata, you need to tune it with OBD1 and will need a Skunk conversion harness. so like another $1200, jk.. why do you want a GSR tranny? save your money unless your tranny is crap. it will help with acceleration but barely noticeable.
because non Vtec , LS head is less common,, parts will become harder to find and more expensive, supply vs demand!! put in a Vtec head for $1500< the price is just a guess, but prob a bit less incl. labour!!! and now parts such as cams , springs , retainers become much easier to find USED!! now saving you much more money.
in terms of power 160 whp is a waste of money. with a Vtec head and a few bolt ons , you should easily hit that with a tune
In regards to tuning, get a chip burnt from ZEEMAN!! only after you put in all your mods. he charges $750 and gives me a cut $250 off that, lol!! but seriously, he charges around $500 for a tune!!
good luck!!

so you're saying if I go LsV, I won't need aftermarket cams, value train, cam gear?

That doesn't save me much coz I still need to buy all the other stuff, plus a $500 GSR head.

Any other ideas for a budget build?

Thx for comment btw

you can buy aftermarket cams and valve train, cam gear if you want more power from the Vtec head. I would go B16 head cuz they are easier to find. i have one with the Vtec solenoid and complete but you need to find a Vtec dizzy, OBD 2.
You can take it off me for $350!!!
With B16 Vtec head, the valve train can spin to around 8400rpm safely. i tuned my head to rev to 8650 rpm and do it accidentally all the time as my boost was nuts, lol!! BIG turbo, late spool, haha. But the B16 cams stop making power around just before 8000 km with the stock computer. you can change cams and valve train after but to be honest, after you do the LS-V. I'd save up $4000 to build a turbo!!
after you do a vtec head, put a short ram intake with a good filter, K&N or AEM filters work well. exhaust. crank pulley, if you decide to change your tranny for say a B16, do the flywheel then. don't do headers or cams if you plan on boost and valve train is not necessary till you want to rev to like 9000k

good luck

Search the TCC classified adds. They're are always VTEC heads for sale. It's a cheap build too!
B20B Block $450
VTEC head (b16) $350
Golden Eagle VTEC conversion: Lightning Motorsports - Home (I buy from them, great kit!) Texas and US$
To do it right, you should buy the B20 Girdle: $450 US
Depending on the Car, you'll need mounts.
Why not start with that? It'll be bad ass fast/torquie... Got for a B16 head if you're changing the Cams, GS-R head if you don't think it's nesseccary. Upgrading cams will require valve train up grades.

I love my S80, but unless you're tracking the car as a profession, I agree with showtime this time.... The GS-R tranny isn't worth it.

And you can -$500 cuz you're using a B18B, so you don't need the B20 Block. If need be, put money into a better flywheel, suspension, tuning, lighter rims/traction tires, and possibly better seats.

showtime t.o. is your name Jay/Jason?

not sure how old the thread is but just boost it, rebuild the engine for boost

like F8i said, the Goiden Eagle Vtec kit is best to use, it's practically dummy proof. i would use the the main girdle if planning on boost or cams as you will rev higher and have a lot higher combustion.

F8i, my name is kenny, prob don't know me as i lay low these days as i had a few cars that got jacked before. was in the scene like 10yrs ago, lol , what's your name?
