making a d16z6......faster

hey guys i just recently installed a d16z6 motor and si tranny into my 95 eg hatch. It pulls pretty hard and i enjoy driving it i just think it could use a little more...to be able to demolish the god damn sunfires and cavaliers with mufflers on them (although i already beat them) and a few rednecks in there F-150's with CB whips...lol is there any minor upgrades to get noticeable power gains...without building bottom end or anything like cams or bolt-ons. Please let me know

Thanks alot Zack

Oh ya lol......ive got skunk2 cat-back exhaust,ractive header(poop) and a cat. Short Ram intake..so let me know.

take all that stuff off and slap on a turbo kit. there really isnt anything you can do to a sohc to make some power without some forced induction.

50 shot of juice.

Not true at all actually!....Obviously if you want to go the turbo route you can make your Z6 go fast, but if your staying N/A you can still make decent numbers. But you will need to raise your comprresion. I/H/E will not be enough.
P28's, BISI level 2.2,BISI header, mill the block 0.40", you will see 13's on slicks or low 14's depending on your driving. Not to mention it will be DD reliable.
I'm putting down 162 whp on a ZC sohc nonvtec!...I'd say that's pretty good power for a sohc. My buddy Bisimoto holds the record for fastest N/A sohc in the world, 9.45" @ 145mph NON-VTEC!
So don't listen to people when they say there is no power to be made in these engines, they don't know what there talking about.

zeeman 17-Feb-2008 03:16 PM

without internal modding, n/a SOHC's won't get far.
He's asking about making more power without building the bottom end or a different cam or without bolt-ons. I'm not exactly sure where he thinks the extra power is going to come from, but his only options are nitrous oxide or boost.

Midori 17-Feb-2008 05:08 PM

weight reduction...?

Oh I understood the question he was asking, I was just saying that if your willing to rub your sohc the right way, you can get power out of them.
But you need 1 of 3 things.
1.Built from the ground up N/A
2.Turbo/supercharger
3.Juice
I guess you can put 4 if you include SC.
But yeah I here you, I/H/E, SI tranny, mill the head, weight reduction. That's about all you can do if your not planning on building it up.

Some things you can do that dont require much cash:

- Reduce the rolling diameter of your wheels.

- Weight Reduction

- Tune-up

T-MacK 18-Feb-2008 08:45 AM

Well obviously if your rolling 17's and wondering why you have no acceleration or gas mileage. Big surprise!

seanv98 18-Feb-2008 08:55 AM

You said your putting down 162 on a zc, so why would you not know how to make power on z6?

thats true but guess i shouldve put the price will be higher to build a n/a sohc than a f/i sohc that will run the same numbers. and to the OP dont let people tell you a f/i car wont be reliable. ive been boosting a stock ZC since august and i havent ran into any major problems yet! and my car is Daily driven. its all in the tune man!

p.s to t-mack those are some nice numbers man!

Are you talking to me?????...I think if I can make 162whp out of a sohc non-vtec ZC, I can make power out of a Z6? Did you not read what I wrote?
I'm 32 and have been driving and building Honda engines since I've been 17.

If you buy a e-gay turbo it will be cheap!....But my build still costs less then a b-swap, and does pretty good beating a'lot of them.
I never said a turbo is'nt reliable, just not as reliable as a built n/a. I've had turbos in the past and don't get me wrong there great and fun, but I love a built up n/a engine more then anything.
And thank's I'm pretty proud of the numbers my car has made.

zeeman 18-Feb-2008 11:20 AM

well i've got a built n/a b16 (11.5:1 CR stage 2 cams, etc etc) that i've boosted and daily drive year round and don't have any problems. Hell, i had more problems when it was n/a, than now that its boosted, but that was primarily b/c of the tuning, or lack there of. I was using a chipped p28 with mugen program and paid a local shop to tune it with my vafc2 (this was a long time ago). As soon as i tuned it myself with crome, it ran a million times better, and made more power (proven on the dyno).
The only problem i've had since it was boosted is my cheap clamps letting go and my charge pipe (in one spot) popping off.
F/I is honestly just as reliable as n/a, its just that there is 10 more components added to the car with the potential to break, so use good parts (not ebay kits) and get it tuned by someone who knows what they're doing (a lot of shops don't, from what i've seen).

T-MacK 18-Feb-2008 11:25 AM

^^very true.
I've seen some nasty **** from those e-gay kits over the years!
Bottom line if you want the most out of your "built" engine, proper tuning is a must.

Then why are you asking how to build a Z6. Seems if you've been in the honda scene this long you should already know the answer.

It says right in your post that you have a 162 hp ZC
