intermittent CEL?

So it's been happening since i'd say the winter? and it happens maybe once every month...once every couple of months? it happened more often during the colder weather than the summer weather.

what happens is, i start my car and the CEL light is on, rpm idles at about 2500. if i turn off my car or wait maybe 10-30 seconds, the CEL light goes away and rpms are back to normal.

1) any speculations on what it could be?
2) should i be concerned? the CEL light never stays on so i'm inclined to say no, but i just wanna be sure

thanks.

I had a 91 civic that did the same thing in the summer. Helped when I ran 89 octane. I would get it scanned, your computer should hold code. Could be something simple to fix, stop the agrivation(sp?) of the High revs, poor engine management, and have a car running better. I had a problem with my Intake Air Sensor, but you won't know until your code is read. Visit Youtube for how read CEL.

what year is it? stick a paperclip in the 2 pin connector under the glovebox and put the key to auxillary and count the CEL flashes (long and short) then refer to this (eg code 21= long-long-short)--->

it will store the last code unless you disconnected your battery.
