HELP! engine dies out while waiting for traffic light!

Hi, I have a JDM B18C swapped ek. My motor just died out on me while I was slowly coming to a stop on a red traffic light, I remember I was in neutral when it did. Not only that, everytime when I come close to a stop, the engine dies. Plus if I were to rev it pass 3000rpms the needle would fluctuate, the revs would increase and decrease rapidly. I need some help on this. At first I thought it was my ignitor for the fluctuating revs, so I had a mechanic friend look at it. He said my motor is in mint condition, all the distributor wires are plugged tightly, and everything else in good condition. So I swapped my chipped ecu, with my friend's stock ecu and the problem still existed. Anyone can help me here?

Many Thanks,
Douglas

ok so i just called Ivan at Igarage, he said it could be the "shubrutor?" which will be pretty expensive to replace.

you sure he didn't mean distributor? and that can be checked at the cap by running the car and removing the plug wire at the cap and see if each is arching on the connector 1 by one.

and as for the throttle body you have to take off the intake to the throttle body and look at it if its dark black and all gunked up my suggestion is to clean it with either brake cleaner or throttle body cleaner/ carburetor cleaner and spraying it in and cleaning it.

you should be able to find either of these at parts source.

the above is a link of 2 civic throttle bodies the one of the left being the dirty one and the other with a replaced butterfly valve

Thanks for the information! I'm going to take a look at it tonight, try to see if it solves the problem. Thanks again.

The distributor itself may be failing. As mentioned above double check it. Also try cleaning the iac valve. Should help a bit if its gunked up.

Have the distributor properly tested. They are no cheap to replace.

If you want, I can diagnose your distributor and rebuild it for cheap.

PM'ed CHRIS_v2.

Idling is fine but the rpm needle jumps like crazy. Yah it probably is the distributor. Do you guys know how much roughly cost for a new distributor? Thanks

If your tach it's probably the icm in the distributor. Had the same problem on my d. 100$ later and it was fixed.

Is jumping.

Dear fellow members, thanks for all the help my car's now running fine. I ended up buying a used ITR distributor from torontoJDM and labour cost $60 where I brought it to my mechanic to put it on. I've been smiling ever since I had the car back. THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! :)
