Fuel injection/system cleaner...

So whats the best cleaner for fuel injectors and the whole fuel system (the stuff you put in the fuel tank). This would be for my volvo.

What do you guys think works best?

Did a search but didn't find much.

i am always curious when i see those injector and fuel system cleaning bottle kits at CT or even at the dealer. i am not sure how effective they are and how good they perform in getting rid of the deposits.

ultimate would be to take apart the intake manifold and clean everything by hand

dont waste your money on additives. these guys have cleaned many sets of injectors for me when they were in markham. they are cleaned sonically, calibrated, and come with a print out of the results.

Just Seafoam it, costs you about 13 bucks. Get it at NAPA I believe. Pretty straight forward instructions, just make sure you do it someplace where your not going to upset people.

It makes your car smoke out like crazy, and your going to **** a few people off when you drive it for the first 15-20 minutes.

Still highly recommend it.

Do you put seafoam in your fuel tank so it goes through your fuel system?

I find it works better if you put it into your PCV valve. Its recommended that way as well. Dont be affraid to ask someone for help where it is. I know usually people aim for the gas tank cuz its easy but not necessarily the best choice.

I put in my PCV valve, half the bottle at first. The car needs to be on idle while you do this. As you pour it in the engine will bogg down and smoke a bit and seem like its going to turn off, but you control your pouring pace depending on the engine. After have the bottle, I turned it off for 5 mins because it was smoking a lot in my case. Started again and went back at it for the rest of the bottle. Then turn off your car for 5 mins (MUST). then start it up and start givin it gas. It will shoot out white smoke, some thick tar like stuff (carbon). Then you just gotta take it out on the road for a bit even while its smoking. You will **** off a few cars but its the quickest way. I just jumped on the 403. No one drove behind me for the first 10-15 mins until the exhaust became clear again.

Cheapest and best cleaning Ive ever done.

seafoam is great cuz you can put it in any vacuum line to clean the combustion chambers, you can add it to your oil before an oil change to clean out sludge from the oil passages, or you can add it to your fuel tank to clean out the varnish from your injectors.

also, i noticed when i had it in the tank, i used to get insane mileage, like 750 kms to a 45 liter tank!!

but leitner is right, the right way to clean and balance injectors is a sonic bath by a professional. i think it's about $75 for a set of 4 injectors or something.

ya, i agree with steve, the ONLY way to really clean injectors is by sonically cleaning them.
I know eurodrive (in burlington) charges $25 an injector to clean/balance them. If you want they can even increase the size of the injectors (up the flow). I know my buddy just paid them $120 to clean/balance and increase the size of some DSM 450s up to 580cc (or something around there).

Go to any shop and ask for a motor-vac. This is better than any sea-foam or fuel injector cleaner product out there. They hook it up to your car and it idles for a good 45 minutes. It works really well.

That fuel sys. cleaner that you put in your tank does **** all

Alright, sounds like seafoam is the best for the job.

I got the car for free and I'm trying to spend the least amount of money on it to get it back on the road. In other words, I'm not going to spend $100+ to have the injectors sonically cleaned and balanced. It's not going to be a super-high performance machine. Just a fun car to tinker with.

motorvac is a carbon cleaning system to decarbon fouled up combustion chambers on vehicles where carbon buildup is causing pinging or has seized oil control rings on the pistons and is causing oil burning (cadillac northstar and saturns in particular). it doesn't do much for the fuel sytem.

seafoam is cheap and effective.

The one I use also claims to help free sticking/carboned up injectors, clean the fuel rail, etc, etc.

Although it's primary purpose is to de carbonize the combustion chamber, it does help the fuel system as well.

It's basically a more intensified sea-foaming. Atleast in my opinion.
