D16Z6 blowing white smoke after head gasket change

I have a 93 civic si..was having issues where I'd have to hold the gas to the floor and crank it for 15-20 secs to get it started and coolant was getting into the oil and vice versa...so figured that it was the head gasket

SO changed the head gasket (bc it was in fact blown apart) and put it all back together and now its blowing white smoke out of the exhaust...like full force out of both exhaust tips..I'm stumped...any ideas?

who did the head gasket? it may have been over tightened or not tight enough. also, cylinder head could be warped.

could just be coolant left in your exhaust that needs to burn off.

Sometimes when headgaskets blow you get coolant in your exhaust system.

Or you could have a bigger problem.

I did the headgasket myself and tightened it according to the haynes manual..1st step 22 ft-lbs, 2nd step 53 ft-lbs....what else could it be if the coolant in the exhaust isn't the problem? warped head?

Yeah did you resurface your head and take it out to a machine shop when you had it out? Also did you use the same head bolts, cause usually you should'nt reuse them and 53ft-lbs is where you stopped? I think it should have been 67ft-lbs but i could be wrong cause i used ARP head bolts on my motor.
