hey nice i just got the same ****. unfortunately, mine has 190000km on the clock so engine will have to be swapped before turbo anyway (i'm looking at a '02 d17 for only $300 woooo.)

i'm sure you must have mistaken d16 for b16 when whoever told you that they take boost well, because they really don't. not stock at least...

the rods are too weak for a lot of pressure and even on a good tune you could bend one at 200hp+

get new rods, pistons, rods, seals, and it can take a lot of boost but that'll run you up at least a grand. if you have good basemap and the engine's in good shape you can easily do 200hp+ after just upgrading rods and bolts.

and who the hell says vtec isnt good with boost? when you hit the crossover **** is bananas! i guess the only real benefit of boosting non-vtec is the torque gain. if you're using a turbo that spools real fast then you can pull off some monster burnouts... just don't expect to be going in a straight line if you stomp it on the street hahaha

or get a d16y8 vtec head to swap on, that doesn't cost a whole lot either but it's a nice touch. then at least you can say you got VTEC and everyone will think it's a dohc...

D16's are plenty fine for turbo. If you want to push no more then ~200whp, you can leave the internals stock.

If you want more power, I carry a rod and piston combo for your D16 that will let you take your engine to 400whp safely. For $470 Tax in, its the best bang for your buck.

I dunno were you got your info, many of my buddies run D series turbo daily with over 80 000kms on there setups with no block build. D series are good motors and if they blow there cheappppp! and B16s are also good to booost Stop stereotyping people!
heres a site for you to read up on http://www.turbod16.com/ or Honda-tech.com goood luck with your build! which turbo were you looking into?

well i heard from a few ppl that d series r the best to turbo, rite now, im jsut doin it at a daily driver, running maybe 7 pounds max. i am gunna use a eagle talon turbo, walboro fuel pump, safs. nuthing crazy at all. just wanted sum feed back so i didnt waste my time. its not gunna be a crazy fast car or anything, jsut a lil more pwr, and if it dnt work, its not like a 5g setup gone.

A d-series with a decent turbine on it will net some pretty good gains. Aslong as you run it intercooled with a good base tune you shouldn't have any problems running at around 7psi, but anything higher then that and you get into detonation territory.

Without an intercooler & a tune your setup will be destined to blow. Main reason being combustion temps & ignition timing. Under boost the stock ECU doesnt cope very well and doesn't perform the required adjustment to timing when doing forced induction.

If you need more info on a recommended setup PM me and I can probably give you a hand. I'm a boost nerd.

Good luck

Thats why you usually run higher octane fuel to prevent that. You CAN run higher than 7psi stock no problem, remember you upgrade inj, fuel pump etc, Ignition can be left stock. Dont use the SAFC for tuning its junk. You most likely going to have to run on 91 octane as a minimum. Im not going to write a book for you the sites are there you should do your own research.
