d15b7/d16y7 not starting

well i got a 94 dx with a d15b7 block with a d16y7 non vtec head. just replaced teh d15b7 plugs, wires, timing belt for the d16y7 ones. i do have the y7 cam gear on the head. but the car still intends on not starting, but it does keep backfiring out of the intake.

I pulled the plugs out and all but cylinder fours plug has full spark. the last one has little spark but shouldnt the engine still fire up atleast. it turns over just not firing. im really stumped on what to do and what else could be the problem.
I timed it having the cam gear at tdc and had the notches on the crank lined up as well. and any advice/tips are welcome, thanks for reading!

If it's backfiring out the intake, then something is not right, timing wise. Check your spark plug wires and make sure they are installed on the distributor correctly and that each wire is on the correct cylinder. Sounds to me like you might have a few of those crossed/in the wrong order.

Make sure that you don't have your dizzy 180 out. Mine did the same when it was 180 out.

well i flipped the dizzy a few times just to make sure and it still did the same thing. but i heard i had to advance the timing to make up for the difference from the b7 head to the y7. so i advanced it 5 notches and still doin the same thing but not backfiring now. been reading up and ppl say i should advance it 5 degrees. 5 notces on the cam gear wouldnt be close enough to 5 degrees that it wouldnt start? or should i just go buy a new obd1 dizzy off ebay?

From what I understand is 1 notch = 10 degrees. Zero everything out and give it a try. Spray some intake cleaner in the TB and see if it fires.
