crank pulley bolt
im doing the belt and wp on my d15y7 engine and i cant get the 17mm bolt off from the pulley. i know theirs a tool to hold the pulley so u can use a big bar and crack it but my pulley doesnt have that. its round inside. i tried air gun and heat and still nothing. im thinkin i have to hold the flywheel somehow? its manual tho. any thoughts? thanks

Take out the starter and get a big flat head screw driver and put it in between one of the teeth of the flywheel so it wont spin. You need someone to hold that while the other person uses the impact gun on the crank pulley. 17mm??? mine is a 19mm but i guess its a different motor. Good luck tho

It should be a 19mm. Also the OEM spec for that bolt is 181ft/lbs of torque. I doubt you could hold the flywheel out with a screwdriver or a pry bar. Best of luck...
What make is the pulley? It should have some sort of holes or cut out to hold it.

think d series are 17, b's are 19. i broke a few sockets and extensions trying to do mine. impact won't do anything. you need a 3 foot breaker/extension. i used the handle from my big floor jack (it's about 4-5 feet long) overtop of a Snap On breaker bar. there is a crank holding tool for the job. i had a home made one. if you try to hold it by the other end (flywheel side) or try putting it in gear and standing on the brakes (clutch may slip), you risk putting stress fractures in the crank from the torsion and it will eventually crack. that's how people crack their cranks and cams.

yeah those holes are to hold the crank. my dad made a spanner wrench type tool to hold it. imagine the letter c with two holes drilled to match the holes on the crank, then a big handle welded to the center of the C. then tap the holes and thread in bolts that will go into the holes in the crank pulley. that's it

On the MR2 we held the crank with a big flat-head screwdriver on the teeth of the flywheel, heated the heck out of the crank bolt and used a breaker bar with a 5-foot steel pipe to get it to crack loose...lol
Lots of fun!

try putting the breaker bar on the nut, lower car enough that the floor/ground wont allow the bar to spin, it's a s so point it toward the front of the car, then blip the key on and back off, that should work.
or try using a gun and going back and forth from tight to loose and maybe spray some rust penetrating oil in there and let it sit over night.
