Computer issue
i have a 1990 civic si. it is being used as a circle track car, and i am having problems with the computer. it is supposed to be flashing on the comp. box, but it is not. does it have anything to do with a chip (i did not install the chip, it apparently came with the car since it was built) ? and is there a way i can read/adjust codes in my computer using a laptop (Computer-wire to computer-laptop)?:confused: thanks

What computer are you using? If its Hondata then you have the option of connecting a laptop to it...if its oem computer with a chip then you need a chip burner to redo the tune.
Also, you have to jump the service connector for the led to flash for codes. |
i do not know what it is so i checked out the computer box. I cannot find a name, but the numbers on it, in the right order, read:
37820-PM6-C00 626-08118NF there are also blue letters that read: 90 8.02 from what i can see. |

and on the hondata website, the PM6 is a match to my car year and model, so my guess is that it is a hondata.

i dont want to take it to a shop, i want to know if i can get a computer hookup cord for my laptop to read the codes on the ecu, thats all. everything else on the car is great!

you don't need a computer to hookup to read the codes, IF you have a hondata s1/2/300 inside of your ecu, it won't give you any more info on the code other than what code it is, the same info will be obtained from reading the flashing light on the ECU or by jumping the service connector and counting the CEL flashes on the dashboard.
If you have a hondata unit inside of your ecu there will either be a blue box with a cord going from the box to the ecu, or a hole cut in the side with a USB connection available. If not, you don't have hondata. |
...its not flashing...there is no dashboard, its a race car...my obdII scanner will not work on it, is there an attachment i can get for my scanner? TO READ THE CODES BECASUE THE LIGHT DOES NOT FLASH?

How do you know you have a cel?
Also you jump the service pin and ecu led will flash. If it doesn't flash, that means no codes. |
of course your OBDII scanner won't work on a pre-obd (obd-0) car.
If the light is NOT flashing, there are NO codes present. |

no as zeeman stated, you must have hondata ecu to hook up your laptop to ecu. if it is a hondata converted ecu you will have a port on the side to plug in a mini usb {i believe** wire...
Though hondata will not show you cel codes, it is used for software changes, meaning modifying fuel/ignition maps and other tuning purposes but not checking check engien lights/codes. |
actually when you connect to the hondata unit and datalog it will show you current (not saved) codes, but you'll need a copy of the hondata S-manager software to be able to do so.

I installed a different computer and read the codes. Firstly, there was 6 flashing lights, then a long pause, (which i think indicates a new code) then another 20 flashes.
6 flashes on OBD0 is engine coolant temp. 20 lashes is electrical load detector. the thing that i cant figure out is that these codes have nothing to do with what i think it is. When a car is running and you take off a wire, you should notice a difference. All of mine except for number one is making a difference. The codes on the computer have nothing to do what i think it is. Also, i believe it could a fuel injector because every time i take out the plug, it is always soaked. does that have anything to do with the wire not making a difference when it comes off? thanks |
That just means cyl 1 is dead.
