Civic bogging down after warm up ?!!?
Hello all,
This problem started when the car was about almost all the way warmed up and at lower speeds under 80 and then would go away. Now its happening more and more.
After it warms up while driving under say 80 if i try to accelerate the car just dies out (doesn't respond , bogs down) till i put my foot down more then it will all the sudden it will catch and take off and jerk me back because i have have my foot so far down. Its now also happening at idle after the car is warm i can sit at a stop sign and watch the rps drop to almost nothing then all the sudden spike up over 1000 then drop back down to normal 800 ish. i can drive on the highway all day without a problem it as soon as i get off or before i get on.
I do believe i either have a bad thermostat in the car or a low temp thermostat as i don't have full heat and i don't think the gauge goes all the way up to where it should when warm. (94 si gauge reads below half way from what i recall on my other civic it reads half way when warm) But i also don't think this is causing it as just within the last 2 days it been really bad and i have been driving everyday since the start of winter! Any ideas? i would liek to get it fixed this weekend!!

Honestly, it could be anything from a faulty fuel pump, failing coil, MAP, O2, etc.
Since there is no CEL on, there is really no lead to follow. Best bet would be to bring it into a shop to have a diagnostic done. This way you safe a lot of money and headaches by not changing perfectly fine parts.

Sounds like your dizzy (take it apart and check the contacts and for any signs of excessive wear or arcing) or a broken spark plug wire (check resistance). My 92 si had the same problem and I traced it to a broken plug wire. Changed the wires and it was perfect!

To put this thread to rest and give an answer after a week and 2 days at the shop turned out to be the ignition. 75 dollar part if you just buy the electronics and not the whole assembly (key and all ). it was sending bad signals to the ecm. so i am told.
