B20 turbo- what to do with PCV ?
My setup consists of b20b (1996), this motor is going to ran on low boost 6-10psi. With low boost what should i do with the pcv system, whats the easiest and cheapest soloution.. Im going to be running the valve cover breather to the atmosphere.
Keep the stock pcv system, untouched or take out the pcv, run it open to the atmosphere and block the nipple on the IM? I know that i will get crapier gas milleage, and that this is illegal, and it wont pass emmissions, but i dont care about all this. Whats would be best for my new engine,?/? |

whats best for your engine is to have a vacuum source at the end of your crankcase vents.
What I would do, is use the stock pcv hose (with no valve) run it to a catch can, I would also remove a 14mm hex plug in the back of the b20 blocks, install a fitting for it, and run another breather to the same catch can, then i would find a vacuum source for it. Either pre-turbo or exhaust slash. Or if you want to spend big bucks get a breather catch can. But the cheapest solution is to unhook the pcv valve and block the vacuum port I guess, but this is not the best for your engine. |
I dont want to spend big bucks lol im broke as it is with university.. IF i leave the pcv system alone, it would close when the motor sees boost right? Preventing boost from entering?
what about if i leave the PCV connected and vent the valve cover one? Going to be running low boost aswell. |
aside from tuning, i'd say crankcase vent on a boosted motor is the most important thing to consider.
YOu may be broke, but you'll be even more broke after your rings are fried. |
lol well said, ive decided im going to get those Krank vent mini things. They work well by stopping boost from entering but still having a vacc source to suck all that sh1t out. They add horsepower too.

i doubt they add horsepower, but i do know for a fact that they work and work well.
And by the time you add up everything you need for a catch can it'll prolly cost around the same. I'll most likely be buying another krank vent mini system for my boosted CRX. |
i just ran both the pcv port on the valve cover and the nipple directly to the pre turbo intake. that way its atleast legal in the sense that your recycling your crank gas gases just like in stock turbo setups.

i think the krank vent minis are the best bang for the buck,, very popular with s2000s.. Now gonna try and find some local if not gotta order one.

i couldn't find any local, and if you do they'll just be ordering them from s2000.com and charging you more for them.

i just odered mine, shipping was like 15 bucks, http://automotivespeed.com.. better than running 5 feet of lines and a catch can, cluttering the engine bay even more lol, imo

I bet many ppl dont even look at the pcv when boosting their cars considering theres tonnes of boosted cars on here, and like 4 ppl replied with what they did with their pcv lmao, something so simple but vital to a engine.

ok so here's my question. why can't you just hook it up up stream of the Turbo to an intake pipe thats not pressurized? |
you can..you can put it anywhere before the compressor(which is what ive done) you wont get much vacuum though in idle..but once your boosting it pulls in about 10-15HG which is alot better than just dumping it.
