b18b into cx ek

hi guys so i recently bought an obd2 ls motor and found a lot of controversial info on the net so i have a few questions

1.the person i bought the motor off of told me that he had to remove the fan switch sensor on the thermostat and cut the wire, same with the engine temp sensor, im just wondering how i can rewire them into my cx harness since im using my cx harness, i have the ls harness but god knows what else he cut since i saw random wires cut everywhere

2.i also manged the break the lower driver side mount on the ls motor can i reuse the one from my d16?

3.since im planing to stay obd2 its the p75 ecu that i need right?

4.should i use my small civic rad or switch to the larger integra one?

5. what exactly do i need to do if im using my cx harness in terms of extending and cutting?

if anyone can help me out that would be great thanks

2. D series mount won't work with B series

3. I highly suggest converting to OBD1

oths88 12-Mar-2009 02:13 PM

why do u suggest that?

zeeman 12-Mar-2009 02:20 PM

1) huh? you don't need to do anything to the fan switch

2) do you mean the torque mount? If so, you'll need a b-series one.

3) yes you'll need a p75 ecu if you plan on staying obd2

4) the small civic rad will be fine, I used one in my civic (the OEM rad) with my b16 swap for years, only after turbocharging my car did I need to upgrade to a dual core rad.....still the small civic rad, just from an auto del sol, so its twice as thick.

5) you'll need to extend the o2 sensor wires to reach down into the collector of the exhaust manifold and the secondary o2 wire after the cat. If you convert to obd1 you'll only have to extend the primary o2 sensor wire as obd1 ecus only use the primary o2 sensor. You might have to extend the IAT sensor wires as well. The TPS and MAP sensor wires should reach to where they will be on the LS engine and all of the other sensors should be fine. Depending on if your car is obd2a (96-98) or obd2b (99-00) will dictate wether you need to change the dizzy plug or not. If its obd2a the LS dizzy will plug right in, if its obd2b you'll have to switch to the obd2a style dizzy plug so the LS dizzy will plug in.

1. what i meant is that he removed the fan switch sensor and enigne temp. sensor from the car and then he cut the wire for them thats part of the harness so is the plg the same as the ek harnessor im i ganna have to source one out?

ps thanks for ur input on 5 and my car is a 96

oths88 12-Mar-2009 03:04 PM

1. the previous owner told me that he removed the fan switch and engine temp sensor and cut there wires from the harness so i was just wondering if there the same plugs as the ek harness since thats wat im ganna be using

and thanks for ur input on 5 i have an obd2a so i dont think i should have an issue with the dizzy

zeeman 12-Mar-2009 03:57 PM

oh, thats ok, the plug will be the same on your CX harness, it will fit the fan switch and coolant temp sensors on the LS engine

You will need 99/00 SiR B16 mounts or B-series into EK swap mounts along with the passenger side bracket that attaches to the frame for the SiR.

This stuff should be left to the pros.

AKA, chris_v2 and zeeman.

Anyways, here's your answer

Timing Belthttp://kona.kontera.com/javascript/l...rey_loader.gif
Mount
Part # 11910-P30-000
(Mount bolts to the block underneath the timimg belt cover)

Transmission Mount (top) **Update: All hydraulic trans use the same mount, therefore this mount is not required**
Part # 50825-S04-000

Rear Mount (t-shaped bracket)
Part # 50827-S04-N10

Torque Mounts left/right
I don't have these part numbers. If anyone can contribute it would be appreciated.
The transmission torque mount required will be for any Integra 94-up and Civic Si (Canadian SiR) 99-00. The A/C torque mount will be specific to the engine you have.

hey guys so im almost ready to swap the motor in but i came on a holt i bought a p75 ecu and just out curiousity i tried to plug it into my car to see if it connects but the plugs were different does that mean i got an obd2b ecu? again thanks for the help gretly appreciated

zeeman 22-May-2009 02:39 AM

sounds like you got the wrong obd2 generation ecu. There is a difference between obd2a and obd2b and they are NOT interchangeable.

oths88 22-May-2009 03:49 AM

yea i checked again and asked around and yea i do but now that got me triping out about my motor itself since the motor only came with one o2 sensor and no wiring for the second one so now i dont know if its jdm or anything is there any way to distinguish the difference...

Whats the exact block code?

freestyle 04-Jun-2009 12:38 PM

The secondary O2 sensor plugs into the cat. It wouldn't be on the engine wire harness

copasetic 10-Jun-2009 06:40 PM

2nd o2 sensor is part of the wire harness.. otto.. your civic is obd2b and the ecu you have is obd2a.. i know its confusing.. But since ud need to buy a expensive 2nd o2 sensor to stay obd2 ur better off going obd1 now.. conversion harness and obd1 ecu will be all you need..

oths88 11-Jun-2009 03:16 AM

update:
i read that the distributor plug is the same shape if its the same obd2 so i checked on my d16y7 and the ls and there the same so my motor is obd2a because my car is obd2a

i bought a cat with an o2 sensor for 40 bucks so thats another problem solved

i can use my d series o2 sensors if the b series ones arent working

i originaly bought an obd1 ecu cause im stupid lol but i bought another one that is obd2a (i made sure this time lol)

i called acura to determine the year of my motor and they were saying something about a 14 digit number on the head or something, coudnt find it so that was no help

all in all the motor should be going in the car in 2 weeks cause that will be the closest time that i will have off

any comments by anyone is welcome just throw them out thanks

copasetic 11-Jun-2009 07:18 AM

i dont think your car is obd2a i think its B... easy check take the ecu and have a look if it will plug in now..

oths88 12-Jun-2009 02:36 AM

i did and it does, and besides i looked into it online 96-98 is obd2a and 99-00 is obd2b,ps i really appreciate all the help uve given me copasetic
