B16B or K20a2

After dumping some money into buying some turbo parts ive decided i wont be going turbo on my b16a anymore or boosting a honda anytime soon. My route im planning on doing a new swap, mild tuned NA build for street and track. two motors ive set on are the B16b CTR and K20a2 USDM since they are cheaper then the JDM K20a.

curious to see what eveyone on the CFz what drop in and why?

K all the way. The b16 is a pos...torqueless wonder. Not saying the k20a2 is amazing, but atleast it will have higher potential. Better block, better head. can get a 6spd lsd trans mounted to it...seems like an obvious choice. Plus the k blocks can take a beating so fairly serious pressure can be fed down without worrying about rods snapping.

^ only con ive really heard about the K series is just dont bang the gears around like you would in a B and stay away from Skunk 2 cams lol. guys have been making 250-260whp with barley any upgrades, kpro, cams,IM etc. i would def go LSD in either swap, as i have lsd already with my b16a i have now. took a ride in a friends semi built B16B it pulled hard took and out a STI with it at KOTH. if im stay B id rather go CTR, then ITR motor. see them pull on the b18c all the time around here.

Are we just talking about K20a2 vs a B16b? Or are we suggesting what best suites your needs regarding budget/power? IS there a need for fuel efficiency? You can't compare a 1.6 to a 2.0 in fuel economy.

Also, why K20a2? K20Z1 is better. Has ITR cams, better intake manifold and the tranny has higher final drive.

I was considering a K20a3(base rsx motors + tranny's go cheap!)swap but after realizing what is required (K-Pro - $900, shift box - $300-600) it doesn't make sense to pay $1500 for 40lbs of torque.

How long have you been on the forums? K series > B series... you know this Baby!

... skunk2 hasn't been, appropriately, labeled junk2 for no reason :)

both are fuel efficent. two motors i can get a hold of right now, just wanted to see whats ppl opinions are on them. i would never waste my time with a k20a3.

only benefit of the b series is that parts are cheap nowadays and everybody is trying to get rid of all the parts. K has a lot more potential and you know it...you cannot compare a mildly built K with built B....just wont happen.

Be a man and go with j swap ;)

MyVtecGoesBWAH 31-Mar-2012 10:40 AM

^you know whats funny is i was thinking of doing a J swap. im thinking in the future once i have kids tho, 4 dr ej with a J swap should pull a family nice lol. Yea lots of b series parts everywehere and CTR swap would be simple since i already have a B. if i go K im thinking i might buying another coupe and build from their.

hey hey come on.. a b swap is fun lol b18c1 ftw lol

PurpleStuff 10-Apr-2012 01:23 PM

if youre going k, might as well go j. price for swap and parts isnt far from each other.
