acceleration problem
i recently bought a 94 civic, when accelerating on the 1-3 gears (4, 5 gear not so much) it will bogg down almost and cut in and out, like its spitting almost, it will only do this rite when i change gears until its a high rpm then it will stop. i havent checked the sparkplugs yet , but im pretty sure thats not the problem.
Any suggestions will be appreciated greatly. |
airfilter?
oil? other fluid? |
You haven't checked your spark plugs, but your pretty sure that's not your problem?
How would you know? My guess is your diagnostic skills are pretty poor. So I would recommend just doing a full tune-up and see if that solves it. If not, bring it to somebody who can run a proper diagnosis. |
^^^^ I agree.

how would i no ? umm because the person who sold it to me said he recently changed the sparkplugs.
and you really shouldnt judge someones diagnostic skills on a paragraph of words in a forum... |
I have the same problem but only in 2nd gear. I have swapped the motor recently and the only parts that were original were the fuel pump (which i dont see it being) and distributor (which i think it is)

... i'd start with reading and gapping the plugs, checking resistance on the wires, and servicing the cap and rotor. it's all pretty standard stuff when buying a used car, and it's cheap/free to do. then if the problem continues, i'd check PCV and replace the fuel filter. I'd also recommend new belts on the alternator and PS pump at least since no one ever seems to replace those. |

Hey!
I am having the exact same problem with my civic...I've replaced the distributer cap and rotor as well as the spark plugs and it is still randomly hesitating at low rpm....I'm going to try replacing my fuel filter and see if that helps...not too sure whats going on here but I would like to find out asap so that no further damage occurs! If anyone can help us please post here! Thanks, Jamie |
dont bother asking for help in this thread, all they do is criticize you on your diagnostic skills...
the only person that decently helped was cr8tiv |

If anyone can help us please post here! Thanks, Jamie Here is what I would do. First i'd replace your wires (since you've already done plugs, cap/rotor) Then if the mis-fire is still there, I would un-clip each injector one at a time. When you pull the plug off the injector the engine should mis-fire even more. If you unplug one injector and the engine remains the same then you have found your dead cylinder. First thing I would do is get a stethoscope and listen to the injector to see if it is firing probably. If that checks out and your plug gap is correct and wires have been changed, I would then do a compression test on the whole motor to see if you have a bent valve or something of that nature. |

Thanks, Jamie hesitation or misfiring are really really hard to diagnose guys, there isn't one problem that consistently causes it, it could be anything from a bad injector, bad ECU, clogged air filter, bad dizzy, etc etc etc the list is hella long. 1st thing to do is check to find out if it's fuel or spark related. reading the plugs would help. once you know fuel or spark, then you can test a number of areas to determine root cause. |

oh and also, it's important to be exact in your description of the problem. a hesitation is different from a misfire. it's also diagnosed differently. if you want good help, you need to be absolutely exact and include car details. often the history of the car helps diagnose.
for example, i had the slightest of hesitation for about 2 weeks, no big deal. i drove 4 hours and the car sat for 3 days, then when i tried to start it, it didn't start, it would crank but no combustion occurred. car eventually started under part throttle and idled real rough, allowing me to get it into the garage. did not attempt to drive in this condition or let it warm up. stock auto 1990 d15b2 original, 40K since last tuneup, 286K on the odometer. that is how you write a help post. |

lol why do you even bother posting that, its obv not helping anyone. im guessing ur self esteem is very low and you need to critize others to raise it? on forums? im i correct? k its been like 2 mintues im surprised you havent replied... |
So now you are going through my posts to find where I rip on people? Who cares. Why don't you post some of my helpful posts?
