1992 Honda Accord - Excessive fuel consumption
On a 92 Accord Ex,
I've noticed the fuel consumption is really high.. Car is not throwing any codes and I don't see any black suit on the back bumper.. What thing should i investigate? Could it be a weak spark? lack of intake? Thanks |
how bad is it? I do highway drives to Windsor as my baseline, 5.8 liters/100 kms is my baseline generally. for an accord, I'd guess around 7 or 8 liters would be expected. what is actually observed?
also, that's pure highway, city I get about 10-11 liters/100 kms. fuel economy is 90% of the time driver related, dragging brakes, flat tires, slipping clutch.... the other 10% it'll be like coolant temp sensor, MAP sensor, O2 (oxygen one only makes a 2 MPG difference) |
I'm working on total mileage per tank averages right now but I'd estimate he's getting no more than 300KMs to the tank.. 75kms/day of city/highway driving and filling up on average twice a week.
Clutch is slipping a bit, but nothing outrageous. Everything else is checked and fine. Something is definitely wrong with it; wanted some starting points to investigate. Thanks. |
Without any fancy loggers or analyzers theres nothing you can really do, except check if it needs a tuneup. Pull plugs, hook up a fuel pressure gauge and check for leaking injectors or if your filter is clogged!
