1991 DX D15B6 question
Question on what I think is valve guide seal needing replacement for a 1991 DX D15B6.
It's a car for sale locally. It's been for sale for 9 months but no one buys it. It has trouble starting. If it starts blue smoke comes out for 3-5 minutes then clears up. Once started it works fine and starts fine. If it sits even 3 days the trouble is back. Even after sitting only a few hours you get some blue smoke on start up.
I'm wondering if I'm thinking right on valve seals being the problem and how easy it is for this to be fixed in my driveway. I can put a motor in for $800 but I've never tried engine work before and I don't have a garage so it would need to be a 1 day or couple a sunny days job.

well, you'd have to pull the head to replace the guide seals, meaning right away you need new head bolts, head gasket, machining the head, and while you're doing all that you might as well do the timing belt and stuff... so I dunno, it might just be easier to replace the engine with a good one. but then again, is it worth doing on a car you wanna sell - you're prolly not gonna get that money back on the sale. post pics of the car and how much you're asking, maybe there is another reason no one's buying it.

If its smokes right at start up its usually valve seals.
They aren't hard to change really.. if you know what you're doing. If you have no clue what you're doing then it'll be the most difficult thing in the world.
There is a fitting you can buy that pumps air in the cylinder so that you can do the valve seal w/o removing the head.
You don't sound like you'll be able to do this job though, so i would recommend paying someone who can do it, do it.
