Question Window Tint!

ok so i have no idea whats legal, etc, and what do the percents mean?

and why do people get 20% on back window and 35% on sides?

also, whats the maximum you can tint without losing visibility at night time?

thanks!

I dont think there is a legal # for tints , as long as the cop can see you inside it should be fine

Also 35 % , 20 % , 15 % doesnt mean much , it depends on the film they are using.. I know some 35% films could look as dark as 25%

I would personally recomend audio heaven for tints. They did a great job with my car for a low price 170 $

As per percentage , i went 23 % all around , however I wish i would of went darker in the back.. Personally if you go to audio heaven I would go 23% front and 17% at the back ( i would even go as dark as 10%)

Some people like the even look and some dont.. I m happy with my tints but it I had to do it again i would go like i told you above

good luck

Like you can tell they are not the darkest... and they do get lighter when there is a lot of sun outside.. and obviously a little darker , depending on the weather

Trust me 23% front is perfect but in the rear 17% would look sick.. I dont like tints that are too dark...

I ve been doing some reasearch and the problem with going too dark is at night , when you will not have too much visibility ( backing out , etc ).. Also i been looking at some cars and having light tints in the front and too dark in the back doesnt look good

Personally 23% front 17 % rear is good , or maybe even 10% ( but the two tones will be too noticeble)

I wouldnt go too dark all around as cops will be pulling you over all the time , specially if you drive a civic and if it is somewhat modded ( from experience)

good luck

yes the lower the darker..

I m not sure about visibility but i have read other people with 10% complaning about visibility ..

With my tints i have not issues with visibility at all, if anything i wish the back was darker ( i know i keep saying that !!!)

But it really depends on the film , a buddy of mine has 35% and it looks as dark as mine I can only show you audioheaven films

and yea 170 $ is a crazy deal

I think it would look better, just for looks ...

Once you start modding your car you may become a little TOO picky , like a perfectionist type of thing.. At least thats they way i m ...

But i m going to leave it the way it is now , it still looks good

I gotta start saving up for a swap or a turbo , I pretty much done most of the bolts on

so if im going to start modding, how much should i have approx saved up for it?

im more interested in engine rather than body kits....

window tint is a must for me cuz i like the privacy, lol....but then after its all engine and then the body

so for engine, approx saving for a full swap and mods?

There is a legal limit. Its 35% on the front side windows, and back can be as dark as you want. The percentage means how much light it let's in.
The colour of the car makes a big difference. 35% in the front is really the darkest I would go. I'd rather have safety and being able to see clearly out through my mirrors instead of looking good.
When I brought a prelude to audioheaven, I told them to do it with 35% in the front and 20% in the back. The car is black with black interior and it looks very dark.

Now about your engine swap/mod budget, need to be more specific, atleast power goals and how you want to achieve it. Turbo? Built n/a? Just create a new thread in designated section.

you could still get a ticked with 35% if the cop doesnt like you.. But with 35% you should be save

Also keep in mind the colour of the car plays a big part on how dark your tint would look.. If i had black interior it will look darker

i have a sliver car with light grey fabric inside, so i dont think its gonna look dark.... especially if i have plans on having a white interior with slight black trim for contrast...

Would not recommend white interior. if you decide to paint the dash white, it will be hard to drive around on a sunny day. The sun will reflect a LOT from the white dash.

There is no legal limit. The law is:

Colour coating obscuring interior
(3) No person shall drive on a highway a motor vehicle on which the surface of the windshield or of any window to the direct left or right of the driver’s seat has been coated with any coloured spray or other coloured or reflective material that substantially obscures the interior of the motor vehicle when viewed from outside the motor vehicle. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 73 (3).

Yeah but the unwritten law is 35% you won't get bothered by the police. Though they technically still can tell you to remove anything.

I spoke to 3 different cops about the tints and they all told me the samething , if the police officer feels that he can not clearly see you inside he can give you a ticket.. Regardless if you had 35%-25%-20%

But I do agree with you , 35% should be ok .. I m driving with 23% and so far it is good
