Wheel balancing...

Hey People!

Was wondering if wheel balancing is done the same as regular wheels for 17" rims and tires? Also if anyone could recommend any good place to go for this (someone who knows what they are doing) Don't tell me green & ross either, don't like that place.

Thanks,
Dave

Use stick on rather than clip on weights. Usually charge more for the stick on weights. Otherwise your lip will be damaged from the clip. Stick on ones are placed inside the rim behind the spokes.

I don't live in the GTA, but any place that sells aluminium wheels ought to have it...just call and ask.

1niceSi, the lip will still get damaged, and if the clearcoat on al wheels is damages, even the slightest amount of salt will make it corrode. It turns into a white powder. By the way, those clips MUST be attached on both the inside AND outside, whereas the stick on ones are just in the middle

You don't HAVE to stick the "clips" on the inside AND outside. You have a choice when you set up the wheel on the tire balancer...I believe it's called "static" balancing, but don't qoute me on the termanology.

Stick on weights (while easier to hide) tend to lose its grip to the rim over time, due to the foam/sticker/glue they use. You must check them every once and a while to make sure they are still secured to the rim.

Also, you can't always hide the "sticker" weights behind a spoke. Sometimes the balancer will "tell" you to place it between a spoke. It all depends where the inbalance is on the rim.

A shop I used to deal with, were **** with some of there higher paying customers.....how **** you may ask? Let's just say there is a way (sometimes) that a wheel would not need a wheel weight......ie.......move the position of the tire on the rim.....check/test....if it's off a little.....deflate...reposition.....test again.

I had two of my old tires/wheels not even need weights on them.

Sometimes you're lucky, other times it takes some :working: .
