water leaking into trunk thru rear passenger light
 

to sum it up, the trunk space where the spare tire sits was flooded, i took the trunk plastics apart and found that the water was leaking thru the foam gasket of the rear passenger side light. the foam was completedly soaked, some water was in the light, but most of it made it into the trunk thru here.

i thought about using a silicon sealer, but that would be irreversible...

anyone have any ideas?:mad:

it's more of an exterior one, and i'd just use silicon

have you figured out what the problem actually is, from the sounds of things you just see that the foam is wet, is there a piece of it missing or what?

that foam dries up and gets hard and doesn't seal anymore. what you need to do is go to like a craft or hobby center... or maybe even hardware store. get a peice of sheet CLOSED CELL FOAM that's slightly thicker than the OEM peice... so say like 1/4 inch thick. trace out the OEM peice and cut the 1/4 inch peice to that shape, and swap it in. the new, thicker peice will seal you up and will remain OEM by design!!

ive had the same problem but it wasnt through the light it was leaking through a pin sized hole in the body. What i did was take everything apart and pour some water down the channel and trace exactly where its coming from

thanks for the advice. i tried the water pouring method, the water doesnt get into the trunk until minutes later, making it difficult to diagnose where it came from exactly. for now, ill replace the foam when it gets warmer and go from there i think.

my co-worker suggested i trill a small hole in the bottom of the trunk as a new drain hole to passively solve the problem..

this could leed to rust from road salt and water/snow coming up from the road...just fix the problem,don't find ways to deal with it...it will only create new ones
