Question Undercar Lights/Neons - Question

First of all, I know many of you don't like neons; especially after watching the Fast and the Furious. So, please no flames.

I own a 2002 Honda Civic Si Veloz and I'm looking to put neons underneath. (I'm thinking about detailing the car for car shows this summer - lights/audio/etc). I've been told that Street Glow make the best and I've researched them to find a Gold Series (2-54" bulbs for the sides, 2-30" bulbs for the front & rear) and a Blue Line (2-48" tubes for the sides, 2-30" tubes for the front and rear). Will both kits fit underneath my car? Does anyone have this done; got pictures? Thanks a million.

Measure between you wheel wells. That will tell you if you have enough space for a 54" tube.

Man, forget what other people say about F&F crap.. If you like neons, slap 'em on...

I have a blue set myself as soon as my rims and tires are in.

Besides, neon underbody kits were out a hell of a long time before fast and furious.. I've seen 'em on rides as long as 6 years ago.

Regards,
OK

I'm really surprised. I posted this message on other forums and there were a lot of "colourful responses." You guys, here at TCC, are excellent... no flames. I love you guys!

The best place I've found to buy Neons were at www.buyneonlights.com They seem to have the cheapest price around (+$40US for shipping). Anyone know where I can order these in Canada with Canadian Prices?

Hrmmmmm, I'm sure with neons (like most other things in the import scene) you get what you pay for...

Cheap price (really cheap) means cheap materials and cheap labor... Prolly worth looking into a 150$ CDN and up set.

Regards,
OK

I should clarify. www.buyneonlights.com has the cheapest prices for StreetGlow products. There are cheap lights out there, but I want the best. Living in Nfld, you need something that can withstand the cold and harsh driving conditions of our winters.

I'm not sure that you will want to run them in the winter. My suggestion would be to get to know the install well (do it yourself or have a hand in doing it) so that whne winter approaches you can pull them off.

The can more than likely handle the cold my will not last the constant pounding of snow.

My buddy runs his on a Grand Prix and hasn't had a problem in the past 2 winters; and take it from me, we get a lot of snow!

... but wouldn't they get all dirty and grubby and not produce as much light as before. If you can get the install down to a ten minute thing you can make sure they last forever in perfect condition...just a thought.

I used to sell them at The Pickering Flea Market (near Toronto,$200, wire, 4 tubes, screws, clips, switch, everything, just need some tools,.... a lift makes the job a hell of alot easier). You should not leave them on during the winter (even though they will withstand a good deal stuff). The gas inside the tubes sometimes reverts back to a liquid state (when they are made, a little but of mercury is put into the tube along with the gas and a large amount of current is put into the tubes to vaperize the mecury and to "burn in the tube": different gasses & preasures will produce different colours) In the cold, the merury sometimes reverts back to a liquid (anybody that has them on their car, go look at them right now....if you see little shinny silver ***** inside the tube near the ends, that is what I'm talking about.) The transformer that lights them up has to work harder to get the tubes to light up & produce the same light intensity. Becuse of this, the transformer sometime's won't last longer than a couple of years. Just remember to take them off or pull the fuse out durring the winter to save yourself the trouble of buying a new transformer. I'm pretty sure some of you guys have seen the"NEON PLATES" that only light up half way? Just look at some of the neon "open" sings that are indoors (where it's warm) in your area..... They are probably 10 - 15 years old and still using the same tubes and transformer. Need I say more? Hope this helps.

Pulovr, thanks for the info. I guess that once I finally get my neons, I'll just remove them in the winter; I'll do it the same time that I get my rims taken off (which I also have to buy this summer)

I used to sell them at The Pickering Flea Market
'Used to'.... does anyone sell them there now? Maybe I'll pick up my set this month when I'm in Toronto, rather than ordering them in the States.
