taking apart altezzas
how easy is it to remove tailights?
and if i were to take apart a pair of altezzas the same way i bake my headlights, would this work just as easily as the headlights? i've decided im gonna paint the chrome on these altezzas, the car came with them, and i need to do something with them? anyone have any suggestions as to waht colour i should paint em? black, gunmetal, silver colour match with the rest of the car? http://memimage.cardomain.com/member...9/405810_5.jpg |
Black to match your door handles, trim and side mirrors.

To be honest, don't bother with them, fork out the cash for some OEM ones, new/used and you'll be happier with the end result. :nods:
|
easy to remove them...and easy to bake them and take them apart . . tailights are a couple of bolts u undo. . .and baking them are just as easy and better in the end cause u get to reseal the lights properly.
|
I'd leave them the way they are and better use the cash to paint the door handles and mirrors. I think altezzas loog good the way they are on silver cars. No need to paint them a different colour.

gunmetal but i like oem better

i dont think its a wise idea to open them up.
chances of them braking are higher. the seals used on these cheap things are ****TY and any atempt to remove the seal to open them up will most likely fail and u might over heat them and melt them |

I'd say sell them to a teenager....you'd probably get back enough cash to buy some oem ones. If you want to keep them and give it a try, i'd say do them black. |
You can get OEM ones for $70 off of 97SiR, here's the link:

Gunmetal, or a carbon fiber look.

stock ones on EK are better IMO

ok, dam guys, im having trouble getting these altezzas apart,
anyone done this before???, or have any suggestions????, i really dont wanna melt the lens, or any of the plastic for that matter the plastic is cheap and i think the oven may destroy it |
if u really really wanna take them apart.....slowly heat them....very slowly...not till it'z gooey....but till the sealant or w/e can be manpulated. . .and use a screw driver carefually and pry it all apart.......be careful........i practiced on my stock tail lights because i wanted to bake my headlights at one point in time....but i don't wanna any more...and for the tailights i had to really pry at the **** to get them apart. . . if ur not worried about breaking anything......just let'er rip, if u fail u fail......lol

this stuff doesn't budge too easy, and what sucks about it is that hte clear lens is really brittle
and cracks real easy |
i got h/b ek tailf for sale.. oem ones for only 75$
|
use a hair dryer so as not to melt your lenses all over your mom's oven :D what's for dinner!?? DoubaD's altezzas
now... what to do with the ricer isht... you take them apart and you paint the LENSE with Testor's candy apple red, being careful to leave some exposed lense for the reverse light. So they'll look red/clear most of the time, but when you step on the brake it'll show the altezzas. |
hmmmm, bbarbulo, i think you're on to something here, that is a good idea, a really good idea
i now everyone says get oem, but i really dont wanna spend more then a few bucks on paint thx bbarb |
id paint the inside gunmetal or just get some OEM ones
