Angry SRS Light - Questions and concerns only.

It seems Honda has a history with the SRS light coming on in the previous generation Civics and other models. Is the dealers making loads of money on this problem or what for expired warranty vehicles?

What I don't get is why would Honda even design a car with this light that when it comes on, it disables the airbags? Shouldn't airbags never be disabled when driving the car? I have heard there is a sensor for the seatbelts and this is one reason it comes on when there is an issue with it (there may be others I don't know). I think the SRS light disabling the deployment of airbags is stupid. Can anyone tell me the rationale of this? Why did Honda come up with this failsafe?

How has Honda improved this issue in the current Civics as I was going to buy one but went for a Mazda3 instead. I am worried the SRS light will be back to haunt me as my wifes 2000 Civic has this issue but it does not stay on all the time. We have already paid Honda to fix it but they ended up replacing the battery only and it did not fix the SRS.

SRS LIght is not common on honda unless you disconnect the wiring from your seat.you may heared a lot of honda owner asking the same Q's but those people might did some MODD on thiere car that might trigered the SRS light.Onother reason Y the SRS light turn on is some people might damage the seat belt swicth. But SRS light can be resetable w/out problem w/ ur Air bag system...

last time I had the SRS light on, the computer diagnostic shows that the seat belt sensor was dirty.... luckily my mechanic gave me a diagnostic for $20 or else, the dealer will scam me for fixing something related to the airbags

When I had the SRS light on my Honda it was a seat belt switch. Which was covered under Honda lifetime warranty .
