Rust Proofing Yourself

Rust Proofing Yourself
I have a few small rust spots under the fender and wheel wells i was going to do it myself before the salty winters come
Just wondering what materials in terms of paint, rust proof paint etc i need for this job.
I have the sander , just wondering what procedure to do it in.
I have an idea but i don't want to screw / make anything worst
thoughts & ideas
Might write up a DIY once i'm done too
Credits will be added

1. Wire wheel on a drill to strip any crap on there.
2. Clean everything up.
3. Sandblast anything that you touched with the wire wheel.
4. Primer (a few coats if you wish)
5. Rubberized coating last. This stuff wont chip when rocks and crap flies up and hits it.

whats wire wheel?
i was going to sand it down to the metal, and put some sort of coats of paint etc on it
the usual primer (few coats), rust proof paint,
but i will do the ruberrized coating now that i know there is something of this
