Rims painting
 

Probalby a bad idea...
but i just want to konw if anyone knows how to paint ur rims

ya man ive painted mines plenty of times
got a pic of ur rims??

my rims were crusted hardcore and refinished about 3 times now different colors and all.


Silver Painted
aluminum Stock color - now

Bronze Painted
Bronze for winter

Stock Color to Chrome - Yuck

Pretty Simple. Did mine about 4 weeks ago.
Materials:
>2 cans of Dupli-color Performance Wheel paint. (Black, Graphite, White, Silver) Your choice.
>Scouring pad or even coarse sanding pads. I used about 3. I also used 400 grit sandpaper.
>3M Automotive Masking Tape

-Clean the wheels off with some de-greaser or just scrub them as clean as possible.
-Sand down the wheels to take off the clearcoat and to make the surface paint-friendly.
-If you have some ugly spots that you need to fill, get a filler, it's made by bondo and comes in a little tube. Fill it, and then sand it down.
-Clean the wheels again with some water/soap and let them dry off.
-Get some 3M automotive masking tape and tape off the tires as best as possible.
-After that, cut up some plastic bags and cover the surrounding tire.
-Put a peice of cardboard or newspaper underneath the wheel so you don't paint your floor LOL!
-Now the trick to spraying is LIGHT COATS. Get all the hard spots first because you can always go over the top of the rim.
-After a couple of coats (I did 4-6 coats), Flip the wheel over and paint the backside of the rim to be sure you got everything. *Make sure you don't let the rim touch the ground. The dupli-color paint is fast drying anyways, but just to be safe.

Neighbour dropped by and asked where I bought my NEW RIMS. HAHA. He couldn't believe how well they turned out.

different colour lug nuts and a smaller tire and your car would be sick!

I agree. I have the black lugnuts sitting at home sitting pretty lol. These are just my winter rims anyways, I thought I'd just paint em since it looks a lot nicer graphite. :thumbup:

jeff where u find the milano red to match ur car

Milano red - cantire small half cans duplicolor exact match,

the ct ones dont have clear coat so otherwise get it from sherwin williams or one of those paint places.

it's funny because I have the same car in the same color as crazydragonclk and I've also just bought the same rims before having seen any of this, they're getting sand blasted tomorow and I still dont know what color to paint them

Funny, I was going to inquire about this too. I have Motegi FF15s. When I first got them, they looked more gunmetal than silver, but now they're looking more silver, loosing their darkness. I was wondering what they'd look like even darker than new.

I probably don't have the guts to do it, but it's interesting to hear success stories.

the smaller cans are notas good i would get a mixed bigger can done, and the spray quality is better. it is permanant and clear coat depends, you typically shouldnt use too much as the more thicker its laid on the easier itll chip but, ive never had too much problems with a thick coat either.

And just so everyone knows, you dont need this Duplicolor paint, any paint for aluminum or whatever it is your painting will work fine. I so happened to use RONA brand paint on mine. $5 did all the rims, 3 coats each. I got 13 coats out of one can. And if you mist on a 4th coat, or your last coat whatever it may be, from farther away than it calls for, it atomizes earlier and lands just as its about to dry, but still adheres, leaving people thinking you powdercoated your wheels. I've had almost everyone ask if they were powdercoated. The picture of them shiny is a still wet pic.
