projectors and HIDs.
 

Ok so here I go. (I don't know if this was answered). But yea.

So I got these projectors headlights for my eg hatch. So when I was installing it. On top of the housing, it says "HID not allowed". Well something like that. Is there way around this?. Or can't do ****?. Well thanks.

yah... remove the sticker

retrofit those projectors. with HID suitable projectors from a TSX or TL, thats the best way to go.

check first if others have done this first. if there is a sticker saying....HIDs not allowed...it might mean the housing is not strong or thick enough to take all that heat (not literally cuz HIDs run cooler) and wattage going through.

or it might have something to do with the lens itself. the HID bulb may not have enough space in the socket to fit properly.

I had to make a notch in my projector housings to fit the bulb..

So pretty much. It deals with the housing?. I wanted to run about 6000k. I don't want the housing to melt or whatever. Did anyone try this?...

I think the main reason is that the bulbs don't fit... the HID bulb has a filament type thing underneath the bulb that a regular bulb doesn't have, which is why I had to make a notch in the housing for it to slide in.. it shouldn't melt anything cuz the HID's run cooler than regular bulbs.. I think I got a pic somewhere of how I did it.. let me see if I can find it..

but seriously... as szuberi said HID's run cooler, so its not going to melt the projector. there are only 2 real areas of concern you need to address.

1) will it fit properly
2) does the projector not reflect the light properly (hence the warning), this isn't as serious as there are 10001 civics on the streets with HID's in stock headlights. If it bothers you, retro fit, if it doesn't watever, its your car.

make sure it fits properly though. This is extremely important. Take some pictures and post them, im sure there are a lot of EG owners with HIDs

I can't find the pics.. I think I lost them when I formatted.. anyways it was pretty straight forward.. it was in a 99-00 housing though, not eg..

the projector was in a 99 housing?
so either way you'll have to retro fit you mean?

why you buy the HID kits w/out making sure it will fit. but any way it shouldn't melt the housing coz like they said hid's cooler than halogen bulbs.

Thanks all. I got it without doing anything. Just a proper fit. Adjusted the projector alittle bit lower. But overall got it done. Take pics when I get my cam back. Thanks to RDUB and SZUBERI.

No, I had 99-00 projector headlights and put a plug and play hid kit in them..

HID in halogen projector/reflector housing will give you uneven light output, you will have hotspots and dark spots and glare issues. Don't belive me? Get the kit and take a pic of your output against the wall at 25 feet.

yeah I have hot spots.. but its better than nothing.. and better than putting a plug and play kit in an oem reflector housing

You should really take the time and read up about retrofitting OEM HID projectors in your housing. The difference is night and day. So much brighter and wider and no glare. Go to Hidplanet and read the university section

I have read up on hidplanet.. I just don't have the cash to do a retrofit right now..
