i just went to your website and checked out the pictures there :) Good job Jay, you are a good fast worker

bbarbulo 18-Feb-2005 12:37 AM

that's good progress.... question: in spots like the trunk corner... personally I'd honestly... I'd reskin the entire trunk, or at least, I'd cut that entire portion out and clean the frame of the trunk, and then weld the patch in place. Cuz that sorta rust I think comes from between the frame and the skin (the type of bubble rust from the inside out). I can't see too well in the pics, but I think tha'ts what it is.

spracingsports 18-Feb-2005 02:16 AM

you should have started with a USDM accord..... you wouldnt have had to fix any rust....

Nova_Dust 18-Feb-2005 08:55 AM

I am enjoying reading this.

thanks alot bruno. well basically your right what it is is basically water going into the trunk from the liceplate frame area. the REALLY stupid thing about this is basically they made factory BREATHE/drain holes for it so the water flows out BUT in the corners they seem seal it from the inside so what happens is basically the seam sealer block 1 drain plug and it gets trapped in there and after years of motion/vibration when the seam sealer cracks around the edges releasing it from the metal water goes in there and stays in there causing it to bubble.

They dont make skins for trunks from what i remember for honda's. plus it would be able cheaper to just get a new trunk in those cases. here is what i am going to do.

first i am going to remove the trunk and stip the seamsealer from underneath the trunk and from inside the trunk and then i am going to sand blast it and see. (usually when items get sandblasted if the metal is weak the metal rips right thru but if the metal is strong it wont) that will be basically my way of telling me that the metal is okay or not. if its okay i am going to seam seal it AGAIN from inbetweent he trunk gap and on the outside. But i am going to be making a small drill hole later for the water to run out off. THEN when the entire car gets put back together i am taking it to KROWN and rustproofing the entire thing and since i know exactly where work has been done too i will tell them to rust proof the **** outt those area's that way for 1 year i will know for sure nothing will rust and then repeaditly do it every other year.

bbarbulo 18-Feb-2005 09:57 AM

USDM??? and start with a nasty ass MPH speedo :tsk: no thanks

actually spracingsports... would you be able to find me a clean EF four door if I asked you?? Like do you know enough about buying a used car to find a nice OLD car?? Like one day when I win the lottery this may come in handy :p haha

bbarbulo wants a collection of Civic sedans :)

Jay, the accord is coming along nicely, and yeah... I think you;re right they don't make skins cuz I was looking at new trunks for my winter car... it's all bubbling at teh corners and around the badges... the 1/4s and the rockers are rusty too... I don't think my current EF is worth recovering from rust :( yeah, that sounds like a great plan for the trunk fix. I see you really think your work through. But I wouldn't Krown or rustproof any car again... NEVER. My silver one is so filthy from the rustproofing. I'll prolly spend a month cleaning all that crap out.

true they sometimes do ****ty jobs.
thats why i am going to tell them exactly where to rust proof it and watch them do it:D

bbarbulo 18-Feb-2005 12:42 PM

man, on my car they latex'd everywhere that you can see, but nowhere where you can't... so like my whole engine bay is totally gross, but my undercarriage is spotless  idiots

imported_mugen_r 18-Feb-2005 01:23 PM

The only thing I'm not feeling about the car is the shaved door moldings.

I saw you strip some of the interior and paint the whole car a nice blue color and have it an accord version of the EK9 I sent you ;)

spracingsports 18-Feb-2005 03:18 PM

dude... bruno.. i could find you a EF sedan like no problem....

there is one for sale in the parking lot of my work :p

buts auto and a POS....

GinoLicious 18-Feb-2005 03:20 PM

That think has so much rust, it isnt even funny. Hopefully you picked it up for cheap. But yeah shes looking good with progression for sure.

imported_truluder 18-Feb-2005 03:57 PM

good job man, looks great cant wait till its done, see the final product

bbarbulo 18-Feb-2005 04:04 PM

spracingsports, I dun care that it's auto... just as long as it's accident free, straight body, and rust free. nothing else would even matter. but I'm not ready to buy just yet... :( I was just wondering cuz for me I'd need 2 mths off work to go find a suitable shell in the southern states.
