Paint Job...?
Hey everybody,
I am thinking of purchasing a pretty old car, and i was wondering what a general price would be for a paint job. The car is an 81, but the guy has recently replaced everything in it, and also given it a new paint job in order to sell it (so there is no rust). Unfortunately, it's that old-school browny-gold colour, and i was thinkin of just going straight black. I am located in whitby, can anybody give me a generalization of how much a straight colour change to something like black would cost for this car? nothing else needs to be done, and it wouldn't even have to be the best paint job in the world ha. Any places that you would recommend in my general area? |
geez that color on the old school civics is the best ... I'd leave it alone..
but for a paint job between 1000 and well as much as you want to spend |
call a shop and find out...
|
do the body work and stuff yourself, then call a shop like maaco to just paint it
|
If you want it butched it wont cost you much. Did the previous owner bondo the floors, quarters, rockers, etc etc and did a quick paint job just to sell the car which most people do these days?
If so, put in consideration the costs for new panels and for quarters and rockers plus the material and labour it costs to repair those floors with metal if you really want to keep that car in good stable shape, instead of driving a cheese bucket around which will rot in a year |
nah, the guy actually put a lot of money into it surprisingly, because he wanted it for his daughter. but now he is selling it. i'm not talking rust removal or anything like that though. just wondering what the cost would be, yeah probaly from a place like maaco, or maybe somewhere else, for a straight colour change, and NOTHING else. To be honest, since i would probably only be driving the car for like a couple years tops, then it wouldn't matter how great of quality the paint job is.

macco does a alright job but i wouldnt recommend the one in oshawa i would go to pickering the oshawa one comes off as kind of a hack job
|
Why don't you call a few shops then?
|
If you can do your own prep work then you could get it as low as $500.00
If not it's gonna be at least $1000.00 If you need a lot of prep work should be around $1500 The type of paint matters too. Black tends to show imperfections the most so it takes the most prep time, that's extra labour and it costs $'s. Any custom colours or fancy metalic paints are expensive and can increase your insurance rates. If you want a good job don't shop with your wallet, use your head and get some references. Hope that helps. b |
