oem hood or carbon fiber?

i just got my hood all smashed up and was wondering whether or not i should go with a carbon fiber hood or oem. Oem hood costs about $100 and $200 to paint. I know carbon fiber will obviously look better but its way more expensive and was wondering if theres any downsides to a carbon fiber hood compared to a oem. Thanks

I love carbon fibre hoods....I bought an OEM hood and painted it black just to see how CF might look on my car....and I love it. I will definately be buying a CF hood when I have the extra money.

There are only a few common problems with CF hoods.
1. The fit...most CF hoods don't fit like OE hoods....VIS, fiber images, and benen make the best CF hoods as far as fit and weave goes.

2. The weave....if the weave isn't good, the hood won't be strong in all places.

3. Hood pins are a must, to prevent it from flying off....that's not to say that it will fly off, but CF hoods have been known to fly off.

4. The price...they are pricey.

this is sorta offtopic but i didnt really c the need to start another thread.

ok i hvae a blue 93 hatch, the previous owner was driving home from work and some kid jumped on his hood, denting it pretty severly, like there is a buldge now where the screw for the ground on the engine is, the dent was about 1-2 feet from one side to the other, i popped it out, but its all rippled now and where the screw bent the hood its starting the rust.

well i was thinking i can get an oem hood for 90$ cad, how gay would it look if i leave it the flat black as it comes? im going to have my car painted eventually but not untill i do some body work and replace my front and rear bumpers, i just cant take the dented hood anymore, but would it look reallly dumb with a flat black hood?

They start at $500 and go up from there. Depends on what year/make you car is, and how simple (oem) or different the hood is (hood scoop ect).

Call Automotive Warehouse and ask for the showroom.....then get a price quote for your car.

Remember the black is just a temp thing... that will start to rust real quick in the winter. Be sure to get it painted before winter time rolls around!

Bruno is right, you still need some type of clear coat to protect it.

As for CF hood, well, I like the way it comes with black and all, but my gf says it is ugly as hell..... so if I buy it one day, it will be body matched.... uurrgg.........

shows the man uses the search function..
glad to see anoopi doin' shyt right!!

back to the comment tho..
CF hoods are basically after market toys
they're like those big *** driving lights.. "for off-road use only"
an oem hood is designed to absorb an accident to a degree.. "crumple zone"
the CF hood will take the impact, remain intact and "could" sever yer head from your body..

so in essence it's more a hazardous add-on than anything

i've seen a cf hood that got ran over by a purolator truck and the only structural damage was the hook getting flattened..the hood withstood about 5 ton

Vented hood style is sure nice. Certainly gives the engine more cold air to breeze.

CF hood will be my *counts fingers*..... 5th project item after I get my suspension this year LOL....

*sigh....*
