New Windshield

Hey everyone.
I was driving to Toronto from Sault Ste. Marie and my windshield cracked. Took it to the shop today and was told it was a stress fracture. Because it kept getting bigger by the hour I had them replace it. I need to drive back up north tomorrow. The guy at the shop said not to wash it for 3 days. Does this mean not to get it wet for three days? Its winter. That's impossible. Any ideas? Can I drive it up in the snow and not worry? Thanks!

you can get it wet, just dont take it to a car wash or anything cause the high PSI will break the seal in the first few days.

if your still worried about it, get some duct tape and tape the seals around the window.. but be warned, it might leave some sticky crap behind on the paint.

when you change your windshield the shop should cover the edges with duct tape and you are supposed to leave it there for a few days

If they dont cover it with duct tape , ask them to do it ...

Ok, so some duct tape should do the trick? I just wasn't sure as to the reasoning behind the carwash statement he made. Makes sense the high PSI wouldn't be good. Thanks.

Anyone have a recommendation for a reasonably priced windshield replacement in the west end. Older civic, owned so does not have to be oem.

I have checked out Standard AG and Apple AG already.

Thanks.

^Star auto glass. Good service, great work and REALLY good prices. I've had them do the windshield on my civic and accord. They can come to you or you can go to them.

DO NOT USE DUCTAPE. Gonna have lots of tape residue and may damage clear coat on the paint when peeling off. Use auto masking tape.

And you shouldnt worry about it anyways. When i got a new windshield, literally as i pulled out of the shop it started pooring. It turned out fine.

Regarding place to get a windshield, i always go to SF auto glass in Scarborough.

Hey MPR thanks for the referral, they will do the windshield on my wife's truck for $180, about $200 less than I expected to pay.

Gotta love the forums
