These RPF1s reps were silver from factory with a polished lip. Prev. owner painted them white. I used a paint stripper (aircraft grade) to get the white paint completely off. The silver and the primer from factory pealed off as well during the 2nd and 3rd stripper application. I've then used a steel wool to remove and chipped remaining pieces.

The lip is in good shape and still holds that polishing touch after being covered by paint (I guess the person didn't sand it when painted it white). The inner piece of the rim has black marks leftover and now I am stuck in my polishing procedure. Any tips how to remove this? It looks like it could be the epoxy primer bits leftover that the stripper cannot remove. I've used a good Paint thinner in hopes of removing it but no luck. I used a Dremel with a wired brush on a small surface area but it would damage the rim more than do it any good. Sanding it will take forever, and if that is the case I'd have to use 80 to have any hopes of removing it. Maybe there's a chemical you guys can suggest for removing this? Could it be aluminum tarnish? Thanks a bunch. I will take better pictures when I find my camera.

I've had great success using a brass wire wheel brush, wet sanding and metal polish to give cast aluminum a mirror finish.
